Drew Carey is recalling his time meeting Donald Trump.
The Price Is Right host, 67, opened up about the time Trump, 78, appeared on the Season 2 finale of The Drew Carey Show while chatting exclusively with Parade amid celebrating the long-awaited release of the 30th anniversary edition of The Drew Carey Show: The Complete Series on DVD.

“Yes, he was [on an episode]. Can you believe he was looking for publicity?” Carey says. “I remember when [I was] in the writers’ room there was a discussion, like, ‘Ugh, we really got to have this guy on the show?’ And there [were] a couple of people that were like, ‘The [episode] is set [in] New York. He’s really identified with the city of New York. It’d be great to have him on the show.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, all right, whatever.’”
He continues: “And I wasn’t like [how] everybody was super enthusiastic, like, ‘Oh, we need to have this guy on.’ And then, you know, I ran into him once at a charity event in New York, and he came over to say hi.
“I said hi to him. And I always thought it was, like… I don’t know. I just never had a warm feeling.”

The Drew Carey Show co-creator and executive producer Bruce Helford, who was also interviewed alongside Carey, goes on to tell Parade: “He was a business guy. He wasn’t like an entertainer, but he honestly, really wanted to do something, and I think that period in his life, he was looking to get a little more screen time.”
Helford also tells Parade why the 30th anniversary DVD set of the beloved sitcom is such a meaningful release for fans.
“I’ve got three bins of VHS cassettes of all the episodes, and it was a hassle to watch things,” he explains. “But I went [and] picked out my favorite ones, or the [episodes] that were really unique…so I wanted to show the kids. But this is going to be great for people to have it handy like this, and to be able to watch.”
He adds: “I got to tell you that when you watch nine years of this, you will go, ‘Wow.’ More than any other comedy show you watch, you’ll be like, ‘Wow, they did that?’ So it’s really cool.”
