In the month of May, celebrities have collectively made quite the case for the capri pant trend. On the exact same day, both Zoë Kravitz and Hailey Bieber stepped out wearing nearly identical peddle pusher ’fits. The coordinating looks effectively proved that the polarizing pant trend is much more wearable than the internet would have you believe. In fact, the most challenging aspect of styling them is in your shoe selection.
Here’s my reasoning: Capri pants are basically just short trousers, and, as we well know, plain black pants can be styled with virtually anything. The same rule applies to capris. The things they don’t pair seamlessly with, however, are platform pumps, T-strap heels, or boots of any kind. Typically I stray away from grand, sweeping generalizations—because fashion is subjective and I, personally, love breaking rules—but in this case, I feel comfortable speaking in absolutes.
I wouldn’t advise wearing capri pants with any one of the aforementioned shoe styles, but fear not, there are plenty of options you can, and should, wear with them. Take a page out of Kravtiz’s book and slip on a pair of ballet flats (pointed, glove, cap-toe, etc.), or pull a Bieber and slip on a pair of heeled flip-flops. If you’re feeling more daring, toe ring sandals or mesh shoes are also a solid option. Ahead, these and more stylish shoes to wear with capris.

Put a (toe) ring on it.
If you’re looking to rid those pedal-pushers of their elementary school associations, I’d recommend an edgy pair of toe-ring sandals. They’re sculptural and offer a funky element of asymmetry. In the footwear world, it doesn’t get more high-fashion than that.

These sandals like make you flip out.
Take it from Hailey Bieber: capri pants and heeled flip-flops are a winning combination. She wore hers with a sporty windbreaker, but the opportunities are pretty much endless. This combo will give a bit of early-2000s flare to tank tops, button-downs, blouses, and blazers alike.

Let your style bloom.
Since capri pants cut off at the knee, they provide the perfect canvas to show off a stylish statement shoe—and if you’re feeling particularly whimsical, a bright pair of crew socks to match. Balance out all that excitement by keeping the rest of your look simplistic.

Lean back and let these shoes do the work.
Sling-back kitten heels are the unofficial shoe style of 2025. They’re classic, professional, and look great with every type of look—including capri pants. Further the “office siren” vibe by adding other spicy office staples, such as a suit jacket and lace blouse.

You’l want to strap into these.
There’s something about a pair of capris that makes you feel like you’re vacationing in the south of France. And a good pair of strappy naked sandals align with that aesthetic. Just add a puff-sleeve blouse and some chunky gold chains to complete the picture.

Match the summer heat.
While I wouldn’t recommend a T-strap with capri pants (unless you’re in the mood for risk-taking). I would, however, wholeheartedly advise wearing a pair of cherry red pumps. The vivacious colorway channels the pant style’s 1950s origins, giving a vaguely pin-up-inspired look.

Let it all air out.
Mesh shoes are my own personal favorite trend of the moment, because they’re edgy, breezy, and utterly unexpected. Anything they’re worn with automatically gets a high-fashion upgrade.
