Ed Begley Jr., the acclaimed actor and environmental activist, graced the red carpet at The Alliance For Women In Media Foundation’s 50th Annual Gracie Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 20.
His appearance at the star-studded event, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, was particularly poignant as the 75-year-old continues to navigate his career while managing his journey with Parkinson’s disease.

The Gracie Awards, an event celebrating exemplary programming created by, for, and about women in all facets of media and entertainment, marked its golden anniversary this year. Begley Jr. attended as part of the ensemble cast of Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, which was honored with the Gracie Award for Best Ensemble Cast – Made for TV Movie.
While Begley Jr. was officially diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2016, he shared in March that he has been experiencing and managing symptoms of the progressive neurological condition for roughly two decades, with initial signs dating back to around 2004.
Parkinson’s disease affects movement, causing symptoms like tremors, stiffness, and difficulty with balance. His candid revelations, including discussions with PEOPLE and on the “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast with former St. Elsewhere castmates Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, have shone a light on his private battle and his proactive approach to his health.
“All the signs were there,” Begley Jr. previously stated about the early, often subtle, onset of his symptoms.
Despite the challenges, he has continued to work, often without his colleagues being aware of his condition. He has spoken about utilizing treatments like hyperbaric oxygen therapy, NAD, and glutathione to help manage his Parkinson’s, allowing him to continue pursuing his passion for acting.
For over five decades, Ed Begley Jr. has been a familiar and respected figure in Hollywood. From his Emmy-nominated role as Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the iconic medical drama St. Elsewhere to memorable parts in films like A Mighty Wind, Pineapple Express, and recurring roles in shows such as Better Call Saul and Young Sheldon.
Parallel to acting, Begley Jr. has been an outspoken environmentalist, advocating for sustainable living and green technologies long before it became a mainstream concern.
