Charli xcx says she would be okay with her next album not having the same level of success that brat did
She said that she was marketing it for herself and had “no clue” that people would connect to it in the way they did

Charli xcx is ready to move on from brat.
The “Von Dutch” singer spoke with Culted in an interview published on Tuesday, May 20 about whether replicating the success of her 2024 album brat is something for her to chase with upcoming music.
“I don’t really feel the pressure to create another record like brat because when I was making it, even though I really believed in it and totally knew what I wanted to do with it, I had no idea how it would be received.”
“I was really doing it for myself and marketing it in the way I wanted to for myself but I had no clue that people would kind of connect to it in the way that they did,” Charli, 32 continued.
“So yeah, I don’t really feel the pressure because I feel that you can never really do the same thing twice and my next record will probably be a flop — which I’m down for to be honest.”

Brat became such a cultural moment that the 2024 summer was dubbed brat summer.
The “360” singer broke down exactly what it meant to have a brat summer in a July TikTok.
“You’re just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes. Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat,” she said.
One song from the album, “Apple,” became a TikTok trend. Bright green also began popping up everywhere, in part due to the chartreuse album cover.
The trend became so ubiquitous that the Democratic presidential candidate and former vice president Kamala Harris was declared brat by Charli herself.

brat was nominated for eight Grammy Awards at the 2025 ceremony and took home three. The album won Best Recording Package and Best Dance/Electronic Album, while the song “Von Dutch” won for Best Dance Pop Recording.

She was surprised by the album’s recognition with the Recording Academy. “Let’s be real, I wasn’t even on the Grammys’ radar last year, so it’s not something I ever expected,” she told W Magazine in an interview published ahead of the Grammys.
“The thing is, wherever I am becomes fun anyway, so I’m sure I’ll figure it out.”
Elsehwere in her conversation with Culted, Charli mused about what ice cream flavor brat would be. “I guess if Brat was an ice cream flavour, it would probably be something green: matcha, pistachio, trees, something like that,” she said.
