  • Hugh Jackman was not in the Deadpool & Wolverine “Bye Bye Bye” dance sequence featuring his costar Ryan Reynolds, so he put a version of it in his show, From New York, with Love

  • “Ryan’s great at a lot of things. He does a lot of things great. But dancing? Come on, Ryan,” Jackman joked while discussing the scene and routine on Good Morning America

  • Jackman also joked that Reynolds “heckled” him during his other show, Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes

Ryan Reynolds may be a Hollywood jack of all trades, but everyone has a weakness — and Hugh Jackman isn’t afraid to address it.

While Jackman, 56, appeared on Good Morning America on Monday, May 19, co-host Robin Roberts asked a question that some Deadpool & Wolverine fans have likely been dying to know: “How could you not have been in the opening dancing routine?”

Reacting to Roberts’ praise — and the notion that his Wolverine character should have had a part in the opening “Bye Bye Bye” dance scene — Jackman said, “Thank you. Thank you so much.” But he has already been working to remedy this omission in his concert series, From New York, with Love, Roberts pointed out.

Not only did Jackman re-do the boyband dance sequence himself for the Radio City Music Hall show, but he also “kicked it up a notch with a jump rope,” the GMA host noted.

His reasoning? “I just wanted Ryan to know what could have been,” The Greatest Showman actor said.

“He wrote the whole thing, every scene of the movie,” he said of his friend and Deadpool & Wolverine costar. “Except the opening dancing thing.”

“Ryan’s great at a lot of things,” Jackman continued, “He does a lot of things great. But dancing? Come on, Ryan.”

But Jackman’s not perfect either, he admitted while issuing a warning for anyone with tickets to the concert series, which he kicked off in January.

“If you come to Radio City, and I get it right, it’ll be a miracle,” he said on GMA. “A few shows have been where I haven’t got it right. So let’s just say that. Anything could happen.

The GMA hosts also wondered if, after attending Jackman’s other current show — off-Broadway play Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes — Reynolds, 48, had any notes, and Jackman joked that he “heckled during” the play.

“I said, ‘That’s inappropriate. You’re not allowed to do that. You’re a big movie star,’ but no, he didn’t have any notes,” the actor said, adding, “I’m sure he has and thankfully he kept them to himself.”

During the opening night of From New York, with Love, Jackman debuted his take on the iconic Deadpool & Wolverine dance scene by first sharing his “one little gripe” about the film — while Reynolds was in attendance.

“It was an incredible movie,” he said of the 2024 action-comedy flick. “I did it with two of my closest friends, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy, the director. And listen, everything about it was kind of perfect. The experience, well, almost perfect. I had one little gripe, sorry Ryan to bring it up.”

“Ryan and Shawn were writers on the movie and the opening of the movie had this dance sequence, I don’t know if you saw it. It had the character of Deadpool dancing to an *NSYNC song,” he continued, joking that it was “weird” the titular heroes were together for almost every scene but that scene.

“I mean, that’s one area where I kind of … I just have a little bit of experience,” he explained before performing what he called “the dance that got away” — a fast-paced choreographed jump rope routine, which he wrapped with a mini Wolverine-style celebration.
