During a red carpet interview at the Cannes Film Festival, Robert Pattinson opened up about parenthood and the birth of his and Suki Waterhouse’s first child, who they welcomed back in March 2024.
Pattinson attended the festival to support his new psychological drama, Die, My Love. Costarring Jennifer Lawrence, the film centers around a woman dealing with postpartum depression who enters a psychotic state that slowly begins to dissolve her marriage.
Both the actors themselves are parents of little ones, and while discussing the project, Pattinson made a rare statement about his daughter. “I think, in the most unexpected ways, having a baby gives you the biggest trove of energy and inspiration afterward,” he said. “It’s a different kind of energy.”
Lawrence agreed, saying, “Having children changes everything. It changes your whole life. It’s brutal and incredible.”
The Hunger Games star went on to note that having children affects what kind of projects she’s willing to take on and where she’s willing to film. She also said it’s opened her up even more emotionally: “They’ve changed my life, obviously, for the best, and they’ve changed me creatively.”
Pattinson concurred, adding, “It’s literally just like what Jennifer said. I’m here just to support. Ever since [my daughter] was born, it’s reinvigorated the way I approach work, and yeah, you’re a completely different person the next day.”
Pattinson and Waterhouse welcomed their baby girl last year, and have since decided to keep her out of the spotlight—we don’t even know her name. It helps that Pattinson doesn’t keep social media accounts, and Waterhouse has only provided small glimpses of the one-year-old on Instagram.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar last year, Waterhouse gave her own statement on how motherhood has changed her, revealing that she’s been loving it so far. “I’m having such an amazing time. I’m really, really enjoying it,” she said.
