With Bridgerton season three, the Netflix series deviated from the order of Julia Quinn’s books, which serve as the inspiration for the show. Instead of focusing on Benedict’s story from, An Offer From a Gentleman, the show chose to center Colin and Penelope (Romancing Mister Bridgerton). Does that mean season four will be about Benedict?
Yes, Netflix confirmed in July 2024. Per the official logline, season four “turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict. Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down.” In September 2024, Netflix confirmed that Bridgerton had cast its lead actress for season four: Yerin Ha will play Sophie Baek (in the books, she’s Beckett) across from Luke Thompson’s Benedict. “The main thing we can expect [this season] a really nice mix of fairy tale and reality,” Thompson said. “We’ve got this fairy-tale love story, yes, but it’s also got the Bridgerton element of trying to tether [that story] to some sort of reality as well. So, we’ll see how that pans out!”
Here’s what we know so far about Bridgerton season four.
Netflix renewed Bridgerton for season four years ago.
Before season two dropped, Netflix confirmed that seasons three and four were in the works. An April 2021 letter penned by Lady Whistledown and posted on Bridgerton‘s social media channels read: “Esteemed members of the Ton, It seems we have a rather special announcement. Bridgerton shall return for seasons three and four. This author shall have to purchase more ink…”
Season three’s finale pointed towards the plot for season four. “We are hard at work on season four,” showrunner Jess Brownell told T&C in spring 2024 around the third season’s premiere. “We’ve broken out the whole season and are finalizing the scripts, and I’m super excited about where we’re headed. There are some clues at the end of season three about where we’re headed. So I have a feeling fans will probably work it out.”
As Brownell notes, the season finale of season three has a few Easter Eggs—all which pointed towards Benedict’s story, including a reference to a masquerade ball next season. “It felt important for him to explore the fullness of himself before he settles down,” Brownell tells Tudum. “He is someone who has big appetites, and we wanted to see him living a big life before he goes into settle-down mode.”
Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha will lead the season.
Luke Thompson, who has played Benedict Bridgerton in seasons one through three, will take on a leading role in season four. He will be joined by Yerin Ha, who will play Sophie Baek.

“What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome,” Ha told Tudum. “Whether it’s this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict.”
Ha, who is a Korean actor from Australia, appreciated that the show changed Sophie’s last name to a traditional Korean one. “A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful. To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering. All credit to Jess Brownell, our showrunner,” she said, adding, “It’s a really nice way for me to feel like the role is fit for me, rather than me having to fit a certain mold. It’s amazing what it can do just in a psychological sense. So it means a lot that Jess did that for me.”
On joining the cast of Bridgerton, Ha told Shondaland, “I don’t think there are enough words in the dictionary to describe what it’s like joining the family, but I’m just very, very grateful, and everyone’s been so welcoming with open arms. It’s been a lovely experience so far.”
Shonda Rhimes wants to make eight seasons “or more” of Bridgerton.
“Everybody’s going to have a main arc every season,” Rhimes told Town & Country. “There’s going to be one for each one of the Bridgertons. We laid out the story in a way that felt right and necessary for us. And, eventually, every last one of those Bridgertons is going to have a love story.”
In an interview with Variety before season three, Rhimes shared, “I do have a very specific plan of where we go each season — which one is which. Because you really have to start seeding in the other siblings, and what’s going on with them, to push them to the next season. We’ve really talked about it through, I think, Season 6 or maybe 7.”
In May 2025, Netflix officially renewed Bridgerton for a fifth and sixth season.
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton will be back.
Coughlan and Newton, who led season three, are looking forward to more Bridgerton. “I’m excited for the happily ever after and to see what that brings,” Newton told Town & Country. “I have so much trust in Jess [Brownell, the showrunner] that it will always be interesting and always be exciting. That’s also the joy of being in the Bridgeton family: There’s always going to be drama. There’s always going to be something I get to help out with or causing mischief or whatever it is.”
Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley will return for Bridgerton season four.
On Good Morning America in August 2024, Bailey confirmed he’ll be back for season four. “Being the elder brother, I’m going to be there to support the youngsters,” Bailey said.
In an interview with Glamour in October 2024, Ashley also confirmed her return: “I know that I am returning, but that’s all I can say. I absolutely adore the show, and the more I can be a part of it, the better. They’ve been really kind to work around my schedule.”
New characters are joining the ton.
So far, three new characters have been announced:
Lady Araminta Gun, played by Katie Leung. “Twice-married and twice-widowed, Araminta has two daughters debuting on the marriage mart this season and she’s feeling the pressure to get at least one of her girls married off. Fabulous, discerning, and blunt, Araminta does not respond well when anything — or anyone — threatens her standing in society.”
Rosamund Li, played by Michelle Mao. “Beautiful, vain, and eager to please her mother, Rosamund is Araminta’s eldest daughter and most prized possession. Rosamund sets her sights on Benedict this social season. And, just like her mother, Rosamund is determined to get what she wants.”
Posy Li, played by Isabella Wei. “Rosamund’s younger, kinder sister is also debuting this year. But Araminta rarely puts the spotlight on her second child. Posy’s chatty, overly friendly demeanor often has her putting her foot in her mouth.”
Phoebe Dynevor is “waiting for a call.”
Dynevor, who played Daphne Bridgerton in seasons one and two, said she’s waiting for a call for season four. “I mean, they’ve not called me yet, and I think they’re shooting Season 4 right now,” she told The Direct about her potential return. “So, I’m still waiting for that call.” She wasn’t in season three, but didn’t rule out returning for future seasons.
Season 4 began filming in September 2024.
In an interview with the LA Times, Brownell teased, “You might be getting a different season from Bridgerton. We always live in this perpetual spring in Bridgerton, but we’re playing around with the idea of fall… for the first time. Some of that is about story and some of it is, honestly, just for practical reasons because we’re shooting in the fall. It’s still going to be just as lush and colorful, but just more in those warm fall colors instead of the pastels. There will still be some pastels, so it won’t look like a totally different show. I’ll give you that.”
Bridgerton season four will premiere in 2026.
Netflix confirmed 2026 in a first glimpse at the season, but no specific date has been set yet.

“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” Brownell said. “And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.”
