Jennifer Lopez once sang that if you go hard, you gotta get on the floor – but surely she didn’t mean this.

The “Jenny From the Block” singer recently revealed that she sustained an injury while rehearsing for the upcoming American Music Awards, which she is set to both host and appear on as a performer. Lopez shared a series of photos to her Instagram stories on Tuesday documenting the progress of the wound.

“So this happened…” she wrote over the first, a smiling selfie in which she held an ice pack over right right eye. In the next, Lopez displayed the full impact of the injury, which included a bruise on her right cheek and small laceration to the bridge of her nose.

In another story, Lopez posed with the Los Angeles-based facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Diamond, with overlaid text reading, “Thanks for stitching me up Dr. Diamond. A week later and a whole lotta ice, I’m good as new.”

Reps for Lopez did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment.

Lopez, 55, was announced as the host of the annual, fan-voted celebration of musical excellence. The pop star has a long history with the AMAs, having first performed at the 2001 ceremony, hosted in 2015, and made over 10 appearances in the years between and beyond.

She teased what fans may be able to expect from her upcoming AMAs stint in a taped interview, in which she harkened back to 2015, when she decided to “change for every time I came out there [onstage]” and perform a “dance medley to all of these amazing songs from that year”

“Maybe I’ll do it again one day. Who knows?” Lopez coyly added.

Kendrick Lamar was crowned the king of this year’s AMA nominations, with a walloping 10 nods. Post Malone followed with eight, with Billie Eilish and first-time nominees Chappell Roan and Shaboozey each racking up seven.

Yesterday, the American Music Awards announced that Janet Jackson will receive their apex honor, the ICON Award. The first ICON Award was given to Rihanna in 2013.

The Las Vegas event will air live Monday, May 26, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and Paramount+.
