Caitlin Clark shares insight into her friendship with Taylor Swift in a new ESPN profile

Caitlin Clark says Taylor Swift is “probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever been around” in a new profile about the WNBA star ahead of her second season.
The Indiana Fever guard spoke with ESPN ahead of the first game of her season Saturday night against the Chicago Sky. In the story, Clark, 23, gave the outlet some new insight into one of the biggest headlines of her 2024-25 offseason when she joined Swift, 35, in cheering on Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs during their Jan. 18 playoff game against the Houston Texans.
Clark said she and the pop superstar just shared “real conversations” during the game, which the Chiefs ultimately won 23-14 with the help of a touchdown by Swift’s 35-year-old boyfriend, Kelce.
“I think what people don’t always realize about people with a certain spotlight, whether it’s her, whether it’s me, whether it’s another professional athlete or a pop star, we’re real people,” Clark told ESPN.
“We’re just having normal conversations as any other person in Arrowhead Stadium that night,” the WNBA Rookie of the Year explained. “She loves the Chiefs just as much as I do. I’m talking football with her. She loved it, and just like her passion, and honestly, probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever been around. And everybody says that when you meet her, but it’s really true. She just treats everybody with the same amount of kindness, and her family was great.”
Clark’s Jan. 18 appearance at Arrowhead Stadium was the perhaps the most noteworthy stop in a busy offseason for the 2024 Time Athlete of the Year, who has been reportedly working hard in the gym ahead of her sophomore WNBA season.

The Fever star was a big fan of Swift’s before they met late last year. Clark attended “back-to-back” Eras Tour performances during Swift’s Nov. 1-3 run at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., where Swift reportedly sent her “four bags” of merchandise as a thank you for attending.
Along with the merch, Swift also sent Clark a note saying that they should attend an upcoming Kansas City Chiefs game together, PEOPLE previously reported. Swift also wrote in her note that “Trav and I” are hoping to attend an Indiana Fever game to watch her play, as well.

Speaking with David Eickholt of 247Sports two weeks after taking in the NFL playoff game with Swift, Clark admitted that if she had been told about the opportunity a year and a half ago, “I probably would have been like, ‘What?!,’ “ she said.
“Obviously, I’m a huge Chiefs fan, I’ve been a huge Chiefs fan, and obviously Taylor is a huge Chiefs fan too, so it was fun and obviously worked out where we could go and we had the time,” Clark told Eickholt. “It was perfect where it all worked out.”
