Ryan Seacrest is embracing the highs and lows of being single.
While hosting American Idol on Sunday, May 11, Seacrest made a candid confession after hearing Thunderstorm Artis perform his heartfelt original song, “Out of the Blue.” The song, a Mother’s Day tribute to Artis’ wife Faith, hit Seacrest right in the feels, leaving him jokingly “depressed” about being single.
“It is a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics. I just printed them out backstage. ‘Your green eyes are soft like the summer and your touch can put out the embers of my burning heart from that gray December,’” Secrest gushed. “I’ve never been more depressed to be single than right now in this moment.”
Artis’ emotional tribute not only moved Seacrest but also earned praise from the American Idol judges. Lionel Richie declared, “You’re about to turn your thunderstorm into a tornado,” while Luke Bryan praised Artis’ songwriting talent. “You’re checking all those boxes,” Bryan said. Carrie Underwood, who also sang during the evening, called Artis an artist, admiring his ability to bring new, compelling songs to the stage.
Seacrest has been romantically linked to a few major stars through the years, including Julianne Hough and Shayna Taylor. He most recently dated model Aubrey Paige, however the two split in 2024. The Wheel of Fortune host has also opened up about his own desires for marriage and children in the past. In December 2021, the personality admitted to WSJ Magazine that he wants kids at some point.
“I do want to have kids. But I haven’t even gone down that path, which is nuts at my age. I think in the last year, it’s become clear to me that yes, I do want to do that … I want to be available and present,” he revealed to the outlet. He was dating Paige at the time.
