More Closures
Many businesses are closing locations this year. Most are retailers or restaurant chains that have filed for bankruptcy, including Joann and Hooters. But the newest company shuttering locations is a bank. TD Bank, a national bank headquartered in New Jersey, announced that it’s closing almost 40 locations. Here’s what we know, including the full list of closing branches.
Why Is TD Bank Closing Locations?
TD Bank, which has over 1,000 locations currently, is closing 38 locations as part of its normal business practices, according to a statement by a company spokesperson to USA Today. Regular evaluations allow the bank to respond to customers needs and preferences, they said.
It’s possible, however, that the closures are an indirect result of a $3 billion penalty imposed on the bank by the government last year. The bank pleaded guilty to violating federal money laundering laws, becoming the largest bank ever to do so in U.S. history.
When Are the TD Bank Locations Closing?
There will be 38 TD Bank locations closing in 11 states and the District of Columbia. According to the company spokesperson, they will all be closing on June 5, 2025.
