The Smallville series was a unique spin on the early life of Superman, played by Tom Welling, before his superhero career took off. The teen drama lasted for 10 seasons, the first four covering Superman’s high school experience in Smallville, Kansas. The show then followed Clark Kent into his early-adult years and his formative friendships along the way.
The series premiered in 2001 on the WB, but in its fifth season, the WB merged with another network to form the CW.
Over 13 years later, a few of the cast members have made headlines for their run-ins with the police and alleged ties to the mysterious NXIVM self-improvement group. See where they are at now!

Tom Welling joined a legacy of actors when he signed on to play Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman, on the American superhero TV series Smallville. Welling, 48, delved into Kent’s life before he became Superman, meaning he never actually wore the red-and-blue superhero suit.
Welling appeared in all 10 seasons of the hit drama series after it debuted in 2001. Although the show took a different approach to the superhero’s storyline, writers still paid tribute to earlier Superman icons like Christopher Reeve and Dean Cain.
Welling is also known for his role in Cheaper by the Dozen, where he played the eldest son, Charlie Baker, the starting quarterback at Midland High School. More recently, Welling worked on the 2013 thriller film Parkland, where he played a Secret Service agent alongside Zac Efron.
He also played a doctor in Nicholas Sparks’ movie The Choice with Theresa Palmer and Benjamin Walker.
The actor married model Jamie White Welling in 2002, and they were together for 10 years before finalizing their divorce in 2015. Around the same time, Welling began posting photos with Jessica Rose Lee. They announced their engagement three years later when they both referred to each other as “fiancé” on Instagram.
He and Lee welcomed their first child, Thomson Wylde, in 2019 and their second child, Rocklin Von, in 2021.
In January 2025, the actor had a run-in with the police after being pulled over while driving under the influence in Yreka, Calif., according to an arrest and booking report obtained by USA Today. He was arrested by a police officer before being booked into the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office. Welling was released the following morning.

The Smallville alum released a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, denying any involvement.
“The accusations that I was in the ‘inner circle’ or recruited women as ‘sex slaves’ are blatantly false,” Kreuk wrote in the statement.
In 2019, Kreuk made an appearance alongside fellow Smallville costars Welling and Rosenbaum at the Fan Expo Dallas, eight years after the series finale.
