Taylor Swift’s name has entered the (legal) chat.
On May 9, TMZ reported that Justin Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman has subpoenaed Swift in his case against her best friend, Blake Lively.
Baldoni and Lively are embroiled in a legal battle with him suing Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for defamation and Lively countersuing for mental pain and anguish, severe emotional distress, and lost wages, according to Vulture.
Swift has been subpoenaed as a witness in the case after she was mentioned in past text messages between Lively and Baldoni. Now, her rep has issued a bold response.
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see ‘It Ends With Us’ until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,” a spokesperson for Swift said in a statement given to multiple media outlets on May 9.
“Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case,” the statement continued.
Swift hasn’t personally spoken out about the court case. It’s also unclear where she stands with Lively after the actress’ texts to Baldoni were filed as part of the case.
“If you ever get around to watching Game of Thrones, you’ll appreciate that I’m Khaleesi, and like her, I happen to have a few dragons,” reads a text from Lively to Baldoni. “For better or worse, but usually better. Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. You will too, I can promise you.”
A trial in the case is scheduled for March 2026.
