The Princess of Wales often champions the importance of spending time outdoors and the power of nature to heal. And in celebration of this, the Royal Horticultural Society has today announced that it has named a rose after her, called Catherine’s Rose.

“The RHS has named a rose, bred by Harkness Roses, for Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, to celebrate the incredible healing power of nature and raise awareness of the important role that spending time outdoors plays in bringing us joy and supporting our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing,” the Royal Horticultural Society said in a statement today.

Catherine’s Rose is described by the society as having coral pink blooms and a “rich perfume with hints of Turkish delight and mango.” The roses are available to purchase today. For every plant sold, £5 (approximately $6.65) will be donated to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity to help fund a specialist rehabilitation program for those living with cancer. King Charles is Patron of the RHS and Queen Elizabeth previously held the role for 70 years until her death in 2022.

“As well as supporting the incredible work of The Royal Marsden, Catherine’s Rose will raise awareness of how nature and gardening can help to heal,” RHS Director General Clare Matterson said. “We know how important this message is as every day we see how accessing nature and being outside is vital for our health and happiness.”

Today’s announcement comes ahead of the Chelsea Flower Show, from May 20 to 24, which is run by the RHS. The royal family usually attends each year. The King’s Foundation also announced today that the Highgrove Shop will be returning to the show for the second year running, selling produce such as honey, apple juice, jam and gin. All proceeds go towards the work of the Foundation, which runs educational programs championing traditional craftsmanship.
