Keke Palmer has some things to get off her chest. Just days after her show-stopping appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, Keke dropped “My Confession,” a new song inspired by her break-up with Darius Jackson and the viral Usher moment that started it all.

The song, which samples Usher’s iconic “Confessions, Part II” track and references the singer’s “Burn” in the lyrics, focuses on the 2023 incident at Usher’s Las Vegas residency that marked the beginning of the very public end to Keke and Darius’ relationship. “Sometimes the closure we need doesn’t come from a conversation—it comes from being honest with ourselves,” Keke wrote on Twitter, announcing her new track. “That’s what this song is. My peace. My clarity. My way of letting go.”

This one is personal. “My Confession” is exactly what it sounds like—me giving voice to the feelings I buried.

Quick recap in case you forgot: Back in 2023, after a video of Keke being serenaded by Usher went viral, Darius attempted to shame her on Twitter, writing, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.” Fans immediately called him out, but Darius double down, writing in part, “This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.” Well, he may have rested his case, but now it’s Keke’s turn.

In a Law & Order-inspired lyric video for “My Confession,” Keke is speaking her truth and providing evidence, such as Darius’ original tweet and what appears to be a text exchange from Darius breaking things off with Keke because they “both jus got a lot goin on rn.” (It’s unclear if theses texts are pulled directly from Keke’s phone, or if they were embellished for the video, which is “based on a true story.”)

On the track, Keke reveals that they were already broken up when she went to the Usher concert. “So I figured that I’d have myself a girls night / 48 later online / Made me a villain for sympathy, but you lied / But the truth is in Vegas we was already over, boo / Because of you,” she sings in the lead up to the chorus.

The video also features what appear to be real tweets from verified accounts defending Keke at the time—“72 hours later, now your feelings hurt / My fans was dragging you because you had the nerve,” she sings—as well as a custody agreement, presumably for their son, Leodis, who was the subject of an intense court battle between Darius and Keke.

“My Confession” is the second single off of Keke’s upcoming album, Just Keke, set to release June 20.
