Country newcomer Maddox Batson steals hearts everywhere he goes, and the 60th annual Academy of Country Music Awards were no exception.
Yesterday (May 8), at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, Batson walked the red carpet, stopping by the media to chit-chat ahead of the 2025 ACM Awards. After revealing his “biggest inspiration musically” to CMT, the 15-year-old also spoke to Country Now, specifically discussing his smash hit, “Girl In Green,” with host Katie Austin.
For those who are unfamiliar, Batson first gained success by covering songs by Zach Bryan, Red Clay Strays and more via social media. Since then, the Tennessee native has developed a successful country music career of his own, writing for stars like Lana Del Rey and Quavo, as well releasing several original songs under his debut EP, First Dance, which hit music streaming services in March.
One of the most beloved songs featured on said EP is “Girl In Green,” a tune that was inspired by a girl in a green dress who caught the talented singer/songwriter’s eye while he was opening up for Gabby Barrett in Ohio.
“I saw her, and I was like, ‘Wow, she’s very decent to look at.’ I was like, ‘Okay, cool. Hopefully you’re in the meet and greet line,’ and then after the show, thank God she was,” he previously shared on an episode of the Zach Sang Show. Despite chatting with her during the meet and greet, Batson failed to get any contact information from “Girl In Green,” ultimately kickstarting “a mission” to find her identity.
Batson concluded, “We were on a mission for like three weeks trying to find this girl, and then her mom finally reached out. I never did anything with it, but her mom reached out and emailed my team.” Considering he is still single, it is safe to say that the “Southbound” singer is still on the hunt for his forever partner…
Nevertheless, Austin — Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, entrepreneur, fitness trainer and former Division I lacrosse player — hosted the 2025 ACM Awards red carpet on behalf of Country Now, instantaneously sparking up a conversation with Batson over her green Versace dress. After she called him “the cutest,” Batson replied, “You’re actually wearing green. I was gonna say she’s the ‘Girl In Green.'”
The “I Don’t Like You Anymore” singer then explained what it takes to steal his heart, becoming his “Girl In Green” once and for all. “So all of my fans, they come to my shows and they’re like, ‘Hey Maddox! How can I be your ‘Girl In Green’?’ and I’m like, ‘Step one, are you a girl? Step two, are you wearing green? You’re my ‘Girl In Green.” That’s it. That’s all you gotta do,” he spilled.
With this tip in mind, it’s safe to say that Batson’s crowd is going to be filled with tons and tons of green dresses in the future.
