Sarah Michelle Gellar, for one, is excited about the upcoming release of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer, and she should know.
“I actually have seen it,” the actress revealed Friday on Today. “I’m one of the only people that have seen the movie. including my husband, who has not seen it yet.”

Gellar, who’s not part of the reboot, has been married to Freddie Prinze Jr., who stars in it, since 2002. The couple met while filming the 1997 horror movie but didn’t start dating until 2000. They now share two kids, 15-year-old daughter Charlotte, and son Rocky, who’s 12.
During her interview, Gellar would only playfully tease the plot, which sounds very familiar to fans of the original movie that also costarred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, Johnny Galecki, and the late Anne Heche.
“Guess what?” Gellar said. “Somebody kills someone and they get a letter, and it says, ‘I know what you did last summer.'”
The original teen flick was about a group of friends who, yes, struck someone with their vehicle in a fatal accident and are later blackmailed by someone privy to what had gone down. In 1998, sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer featured new cast members including Brandy Norwood, Mekhi Phifer, and Jennifer Esposito. Gellar wasn’t a part of that one either, as her character, beauty queen Helen Shivers met her demise in the original.

Gellar has confirmed that she won’t be back, because logic. But Prinze will make his return as Ray Bronson, as will Hewitt as Julie James, despite their apparent deaths by a serial killer at the end of the sequel. Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson explained to Entertainment Weekly this month that she tried her best to make Gellar part of the cast.
“I tried, okay? I harassed her! But she is dead,” Robinson joked in an earlier interview. “I tried to pitch some crazy s— too. I was like, ‘What if it’s like you weren’t dead and you’re actually alive, but in hiding?’ And Sarah’s like, ‘I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, but what if?’ And she said, ‘I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar.'”

Prinze said, at the same time, that his character is still grappling with the effects of what went down almost three decades ago.
“They were all traumatized,” he told EW. “Catching up with Ray, you see how that has shaped him into the position he’s in now.”
The new I Know What You Did Last Summer opens in theaters July 18.
