Pistachio Green Is the Color of the Season—13 Ways to Style the Sweet Summer Hue
SHARE
  • Pistachio green is one of the top color trends for spring and summer, worn by celebrities like Jeremy Strong and Cynthia Erivo.

  • Style experts suggest wearing this color with other contrasting tones, including chocolate brown.

After a winter of rich chocolate browns and deep wine reds, we’ve emerged into a spring full of bubblegum pinks and butter yellows. Of course, pastels are always in for spring, but they’re reimagined each year, and this season it’s creamy, milky, candy-colored confections that are dominating. At the forefront is pistachio green. Soft and sweet, the color references a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream or an iced matcha latte (not to mention its namesake nut). It’s a creamier, more muted hue than the brat green that saturated last summer, a natural fit for the more mild first days of spring, and one that leans more blue than yellow.

Fans of the color include Cynthia Erivo, who donned a strapless beaded Louis Vuitton gown in the creamy hue to the Academy Museum Gala last fall, and Florence Pugh, who wore an Alexander McQueen gown with cascading pistachio ruffles to a premiere last month. Even Jeremy Strong got in on the trend at the Golden Globes, wearing a green velvet Loro Piana suit and matching bucket hat. Pale pistachio greens were a throughline at fashion week shows this fall and winter, from silky, lace-trimmed slip dresses at Chloé to structured suits at Erdem. The color has dotted Miu Miu runways for several seasons, and this year it featured in several accessories, from medicine bags to knee-high socks, plus trousers and sweaters. Stylist Timothy Chernyaev is partial to Chanel’s fall collection, where pistachio knits were accessorized with oversized pearls.

In real life, pistachio green can be styled to fit just about any aesthetic. “Pistachio has a retro look to it, so I love it mixed with other retro styles like plaid skirts and faded denim,” says Chernyaev. Though it tends to read as sweet and feminine, it’s just as at home in officewear and menswear-inspired looks. It looks especially good paired with contrasting colors like chocolate brown, slate gray, and bubblegum pink. Texture-wise, it’s as versatile as they come. But Chernyaev is a particular fan of pistachio knits. “Try layering a pistachio cardigan over a tank, or look for a pistachio long-sleeve polo in a cotton knit.”

Ahead, find 13 ways to style pistachio green this summer.
