  • Isha Ambani, the daughter of Indian magnates Mukesh and Nita Ambani, is making headlines for her 2025 Met Gala jewelry

  • As fans have pointed out, one of her necklaces bears a resemblance to the diamond Cartier necklace featured on Anne Hathaway in Ocean’s 8

  • In a video posted by jewelry content creator Julia Chafe, Ambani said she wore many family heirlooms for the fashion event

Isha Ambani’s bling made an entrance before she did at the 2025 Met Gala.

The Indian billionaire heir, whose brother Anant Ambani made headlines for his lavish wedding last summer, stepped out for a glamorous evening in an elaborate ensemble that featured a stunning array of diamonds — and it’s sparking conversation for more than just its carat count.

In a video shared by jewelry connoisseur and content creator Julia Chafe, Ambani, 33, revealed the details behind her opulent jewels, many of which she said she borrowed from her mom, Nita (minus the massive Tiffany & Co. rings on her fingers).

Among the heirlooms was a double-tiered necklace created with what appear to be stacks of square-cut diamonds with a string of rounder stones. Ambani didn’t reveale which jeweler created the impressive necklace, but many of the comments under Chafe’s video pointed out that it looked very familiar — and that’s because it bears a resemblance to the megawatt Cartier Jeanne Toussaint piece featured in Ocean’s 8, the film that follows a jewelry heist at none other than the Met Gala.

For context, the 2018 installment of the Ocean’s franchise sees ringleader Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) pull off a robbery job around the Cartier necklace, which is worn by A-list actress Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) at the starry event.

According to British Vogue, the necklace in Ocean’s 8 was a replica based on the real artifact that was commissioned by the Maharaja of Nawanagar in 1931 and created by Jacques Cartier. Per Natural Diamonds, it boasted a (wait for it) 136.25-carat blue-white flawless gemstone known as The Queen of Holland and 12-carat green diamonds combined with white and pink diamonds.

When it came to recreating the bespoke cinematic piece, Cartier referenced archival photos and drawings, because the original necklace is gone. The replica featured natural zirconium oxides mounted on white gold and its scale reduced by 15 to 20 percent to fit Hathaway’s measurements.

The 1930s necklace no longer exists as it was dismantled in 1960 down to the Queen of Holland Stone, as reported by The Nod Mag, who joined Ambani before her Met Gala appearance on Monday, May 5.

As for the Ocean’s 8 prop, that has been stored away at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, where it is on display for the Cartier exhibit that opened in April and will run into Nov. 16. So, whether or not Ambani’s necklace is in fact another Cartier recreation as well as if it has any signifiant ties to the original necklace, is unknown.

In addition to the mystery necklace, Ambani’s clothing also stole the show. She looked to renowned Indian designer Anamika Khanna to create a custom ensemble tied to the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme and “Tailored for You” dress code.

According to the label, Ambani’s outfit featured sleek pants, an embroidered top and waistcoat jacket with intricate details on the train, and it took 15,000 hours to make.

“A playful spirit runs through the ensemble, with pearls, tassels, and whimsical bird-inspired accessories adding charm and levity. A solitaire necklace from Isha’s personal collection, paying homage to the Maharaja of Nawanagar, brought a final touch of regal elegance. The result: a look that gracefully bridges past and present, heritage and haute couture,” reads a press release.

Ambani also attended the Met Gala in 2017, 2019 and 2023.
