An iconic restaurant is shuttering its doors after being a staple in the community for nearly 100 years.

Since 1929, the beloved eatery that specializes in southern cooking, located in Louisville’s Eastern Parkway, has been a go-to spot.

However, The Cottage Inn Restaurant took to Facebook in early May to announce some “big news” that devastated patrons, highlighting that it’s been “an honor to cook for you, laugh with you, and be a part of this amazing community.”

“After many wonderful years serving up southern comfort food and good vibes, we’re closing this chapter of Cottage Inn Restaurant,” the post revealed.

There was a positive, however, as it was revealed that it wasn’t “the end for this historic location.”

“New ownership is stepping in soon, and while things may look a little different, we’re excited for what’s ahead,” the update noted.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all the love and support over the years. We’ll miss seeing your faces, but we know the best is yet to come,” the restaurant concluded.

While fans were disappointed by the news, they were happy to hear that the gem wasn’t going away, though they also placed some requests.

“Please tell me they will still do your fried chicken. It’s the best fried chicken ever. The only place I have ever eaten any that tastes like my grandma use to make,” one customer wrote, as a second noted, “please ask the new owners to keep chicken livers.”

“This city is running out of places serving great chicken! Thanks for the years and wishing you great happiness in your next life chapter,” another wrote.

It’s unclear when The Cottage Inn will reopen under new management or what changes are in store.

This is the latest in major closures of beloved local fixtures, as a renowned pizza shop, My Pi, in the Windy City, will also be shutting its doors after 54 years in business. Established in 1971 and known for its contribution to popularizing Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, the restaurant is closing due to economic uncertainty.
