Meghan Markle skipped last night’s Met Gala but had something very exciting to celebrate the morning after: her oldest child’s sixth birthday. Meghan posted a tribute to Archie on Instagram, offering insight into how they celebrated his special day in Montecito, California.
She wrote, alongside a new photo of her firstborn, “Our son. Our sun. Happy 6th birthday to Archie! Thank you for all of the love, prayers, and warm wishes for our sweet boy. He’s six! Where did the time go? (And for all of you who came to celebrate with us at his party last weekend, thank you for making his birthday so incredibly special ❤️)”

Meghan has been sharing photos of Archie and his little sister, Lilibet, on Instagram regularly since she launched her personal account.
While she didn’t disclose what she got Archie for his birthday, she did recently reveal one big gift she’s saving for when he’s a teenager: an email full of messages documenting his childhood.
A friend gave her the idea. “I thought it was such a great time capsule to create for them, because I still have scrapbooks and photo albums, but we’re past that generation now,” she said. “And so I’d created for the kids these email addresses…that I will give them at some point in their lives when they’re older. But before I go to bed almost every night, I email them.”
She sends them small things, she explained: “You email them like, ‘Here’s your report card from today,’ or ‘Oh my gosh, you said the funniest thing this morning,’ or ‘Here’s a picture of you two having breakfast.’” These messages are “the things that you’re not going to frame, the things that you’re not going to put pen to paper in a journal.”
Meghan hopes Archie and Lilibet will look at the emails someday “and go, ‘Oh my gosh, [our mother] has loved us so much,’” she said. “And that’s, I think, the best part about being a mom. And we go back to a love language or gifts. It’s not about the grandeur of a gesture. It’s about, ‘I see you. I’m nurturing you, and I see you so deeply. And I love being able to see your growth.’ And I’m just so proud of them.”
