There are certain things that just go well with oatmeal, like ground cinnamon, brown sugar or maple syrup. If you want to get fancy, you can even add some fruit and nuts on top. But the warm breakfast dish can also be a blank canvas for your creativity, which is apparently how one of our favorite stars, Kevin Bacon, likes to approach his oatmeal.

The Footloosestar shared his favorite breakfast on Instagram, and admitted in the caption that it might not be everyone’s thing. In the clip, Bacon, who is in a kitchen looking a little scruffy, announces that he’s about to make his favorite breakfast. “Bear with me. You’re going to think it’s kinda weird,” he says, before diving in.
Bacon went on to explain that he was soft-boiling an egg, before declaring his love for Bob’s Red Mill Organic Oat Bran Hot Cereal. He then put the soft-boiled egg in a bowl and covered it with his “delicious oatmeal.” He topped the mixture with hot sauce and butter, before stirring it into a mush. “Oh man. It’s gonna be a good day,” he declared after taking a bite.

What Makes Kevin Bacon’s Oatmeal So Special?
Is Bacon’s go-to oatmeal recipe a little weird? Totally. But that’s only because most of us have gotten used to oatmeal that skews sweet. If you think about it, oatmeal is just another grain, like rice or quinoa. So if you open your mind to what it can be, oatmeal really can swing savory or sweet.
What’s more, oatmeal is super nourishing. A serving has 7 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein, which is a solid start. Combine that with an egg and you’ve got yourself a great meal that will keep you satisfied until lunch.

Naturally, people in the comments of Bacon’s oatmeal video had…some thoughts. “I really like your films but this breakfast not 🔥,” one person wrote. “Oh ya. That got weird 😂😂😂,” another said. While comments were riddled with skeptics, Bacon insisted in the caption that he can’t be the only one who eats his oatmeal this way.
As far as we’re concerned, the joy that Bacon gets from eating his unusual breakfast says it all: He’s happy with his choice, and that’s all that matters.

How to Make Kevin Bacon’s Oatmeal Eggs
There are a few simple steps for making Bacon’s oatmeal and egg breakfast, and he broke it all down. To start, place an egg in a pot of water and bring it to a boil. While that’s heating up, make your oatmeal. Bacon was honest about not reading the directions, but Bob’s Red Mill recommends boiling two cups of water with a little salt, adding the cereal and then reducing the heat.
Once your egg reaches a boil, cut the heat and let it sit for seven minutes. Bacon took that time to enjoy his yerba mate, but you can also use this time to make your morning cup of coffee or chop up some fruit or vegetables to eat on the side.
Once the seven minutes are up, peel the soft-boiled egg and put it in a bowl. Spoon some of the oatmeal on top, then add a pat of butter and finish it all off with a few dashes of hot sauce. Mix it all together, and eat up.
