Sherri Shepherd is proving that Met Gala fashion can be done on a budget.
The comedian appeared on her talk show, Sherri, on May 6 following the 2025 Met Gala and shared her thoughts on one of the most eye-catching looks of the night — André 3000’s piano look.
During the event, which took place on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the OutKast rapper hit the carpet in a navy zip-up Burberry jumpsuit in collaboration with Benji Bixby — a partnership evolved from his former ’00s fashion line, Benjamin Bixby. Law Roach styled the rapper, whose real name is André Benjamin, for the event.

To complete the look, The Cut reported that André 3000 wore a “Steinway Model S baby grand, created at 75 percent scale by design company Pink Sparrow” and noted that due to its 3D-printed elements, it weighed just 30 pounds. The rapper further accessorized with a red hat and held a garbage bag in one hand.

On the latest Sherri episode, Shepherd recreated the look herself — and for a much cheaper sum than what the rapper’s Burberry creation would have likely cost her.
“When I was looking at [his look], I wondered what I would look like in a piano,” Shepherd told the audience before launching into her “Wear It Up or Tear It Up” segment of the show.

The talk show host then appeared in front of the audience in her own rendition of the look — instead of the rapper’s navy blue boiler suit, red hat and garbage bag accessory, she wore a black jumpsuit with white pinstripes underneath a tailored white long-sleeve button-down blouse for her take on the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibition and theme, and the “Tailored for You” dress code.
The theme and the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition was inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

Like André, Shepherd also wore a piano across her back. “André probably paid a fortune for his outfit, but our art director Michael Lee Scott made my outfit for $9.99,” she told the crowd — and it was light enough for her to model and spin in circles for her show’s attendees.

The rapper’s look was inspired by his latest music project, 7 piano sketches. The cover of the project featured an illustrated sketch of the OutKast rapper also wearing a piano strapped to his back.

“The original title for it was ‘The Best Worst Rap Album in History’ and here is an excerpt from the original liner notes,” the musician said of the project on Instagram on May 5.
“‘It’s jokingly the worst rap album in history because there are no lyrics on it at all. It’s the best because it’s the free-est emotionally and best I’ve felt personally. It’s the best because it’s like a palette cleanser for me.’”
