The 2025 Met Gala theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Sit up straight, everyone, because Kamala Harris just made her Met Gala debut. The former vice president made her way across the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s iconic carpeted steps in an ensemble for the books.
Harris, who has become synonymous with a power suit, majorly switched things up tonight to ace the theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” She stepped out in an elegant black-and-white dress by Off-White, the line founded by the late Virgil Abloh, according to the 15 Percent Pledge. The non-profit, which encourages businesses to dedicate 15% of their shelf space to Black-owned brands, posted on Instagram that current Off-White creative director Ib Kamara designed her look.
The gown included an asymmetric neckline, scarf detail, and one floor-length white sleeve. As for beauty, the politician glammed up with subtle glam, including sculpted skin and a delicately smoky eye. She styled her chestnut-colored hair down and in loose curls for the occasion.
Tonight’s theme is inspired by scholar Monica Miller’s book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The fashion showcase—which is co-chaired by Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A&AP Rocky, Anna Wintour, and Lebron James—is accompanied by an exhibit featuring work from designers Virgil Abloh and Grace Wales Bonner, among many others.
While Harris’s appearance is statement- and headline-making, she is not the first high-profile politician to attend the fashion showcase. Past guests in the political realm include Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, former first lady Hillary Clinton, former New York City mayors Michael Bloomberg and Bill de Blasio, current New York City mayor Eric Adams, former president and first lady Ronald and Nancy Reagan, and former U.S. ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy, among others.

Kamala Harris speaks at the Leading Women Defined Summit on April 3, 2025, in Dana Point, California.
Harris’s chic ensemble offers quite a stark contrast to her usual tailored two pieces. She made her last major public appearance last month at the Leading Women Defined Summit in California. Then, she donned her tried-and-true boxy blazer and wide-leg dress pants in a camel color. She layered the jacket on top of a creamy-white pussy-bow blouse and paired everything with nude-colored stilettos.
