With the first part of her Short n’ Sweet Tour’s European leg behind her, Sabrina Carpenter made a triumphant return to the Met Gala this evening in New York City. Carpenter leaned into the night’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, putting a flirty twist on menswear in a burgundy bodysuit by Louis Vuitton with a dramatic train. She skipped the pants and wore her hair down with the look.

Carpenter made her Met Gala debut in 2022 but truly captured attention last year when she and her then-boyfriend Barry Keoghan made their red carpet debut on the Metropolitan Museum steps. The couple has since broken up.

In early December, a source told Entertainment Tonight that the pair was “taking space from each other. Sabrina and Barry are definitely broken up right now. Sabrina isn’t sad over the breakup and is staying busy and distracted.”

Carpenter will resume her tour in July when she performs at Hyde Park in London. She’ll play additional New York City and Los Angeles shows in the fall as well.

In February, Vogue released its cover story with Carpenter, where the singer discussed the contrast between her onstage and offstage personas. “Short n’ Sweet is absolutely me,” she said. “There’s no, like, alter ego. But it’s definitely a more emphasized version of me. It’s interesting because I’m able to dress in this way where you would kind of expect to hear like a voice from the ’60s. But then, when I’m speaking to the audience, I’m just myself.”

There is a contrast when it comes to her style, though. When she’s off-duty, “I dress like a little boy for most of the day, if I’m trying to hide,” she said. “They don’t even know it’s me, and I’ll be standing right behind them.”
