“For me, fashion isn’t about overthinking,” actor and singer Jeremy Pope said about his style. “It’s about showing up in the moment, showing up for where you are, and honoring that.”
Pope’s 2025 Met Gala look, a tribute to Black tailoring, embraced this ethos: He arrived in a vintage Maison Margiela outfit, from their fall 1997 collection—specifically, their “semi couture” bodice, a direct reference to the craftsmanship of creating high fashion. The collection was themed “fashion under construction”—a very fitting choice for the Met Gala dedicated to supporting Black tailoring.
“I love tailoring,” Pope previously shared. “A big inspiration of mine is Prince from a fashion standpoint, and how he was able to embody all of the energies, and it still felt elevated and intentional.”
Pope is one of the members of this year’s host committee, joining Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Simone Biles, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Regina King, Janelle Monáe, others. For the 2025 Met Gala, Pope was styled by Law Roach.

He made his Met Gala debut in 2019 with the cast of Ain’t Too Proud, where they all wore Thom Browne for the occasion:
He’s been a regular at the Met Gala in the years since, wearing Tanner Fletcher last year and Balmain in 2023.
Up next for Pope is Kwame Kwei-Armah’s feature film debut, The Collaboration, in which he stars as Jean-Michel Basquiat. The movie is adapted from the stage play of the same name, which Pope also starred in, and Paul Bettany will likewise reprise his role as Andy Warhol.
“There is the commercialized idea of who Basquiat is; you see his prints, and his artwork on Converse,” Pope said of playing the famous artist. “But diving into who he was just as a human, outside of his artistry, and how he navigated the late ’80s in New York City as a Black artist—a lot of those things felt very parallel to my experience, where you’re just trying to take space in a predominantly white industry. How do you make strides? How do you get attention? How do you stay authentic and true to yourself?”
