André 3000 continues to keep his fans guessing.
On Monday, May 5, shortly after he arrived at the Met Gala literally wearing a piano on his back, the Outkast star announced the release of a new album called 7 piano sketches.

The musician, who was recently voted for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one half the hip-hop duo Outkast, continues to baffle fans by releasing music outside of the genre he’s best known for.
The “Hey Ya!” rapper’s last release was the 2023 instrumental album New Blue Sun, which featured him performing on flute and garnered three Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year.
André’s new album was released shortly after his Met Gala arrival where he sported a bespoke piano creation by Burberry in collaboration with benji bixby and styled by Law Roach. His look tied into the Met Gala’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, celebrating craftsmanship, structure, Black history, and the evolution of dandyism.
In a statement, the musician revealed the origin of his new album.
“The original title for it was ‘The Best Worst Rap Album in History’ and here is an excerpt from the original liner notes: ‘It’s jokingly the worst rap album in history because there are no lyrics on it at all. It’s the best because it’s the free-est emotionally and best I’ve felt personally. It’s the best because it’s like a palette cleanser for me,’” he said.
