Olivia Rodrigo made her Met Gala debut in 2021, then attended in 2022 and 2023. She took off in 2024 and is continuing her break from the red carpet this evening. Her boyfriend, Louis Partridge, however, made his dapper Met Gala debut:
The couple has never done an awards show red carpet together, although she posed with him at the Venice Film Festival in August. Their decision to skip making their Met Gala debut this evening reflects their ongoing desire to keep their relationship private.
Rodrigo has been in New York City with Partridge though, enjoying a little time off from performing. Last month, she filmed herself listening to Lorde’s new single “What Was That?” in Washington Square Park and spoke at Planned Parenthood’s spring gala. She was last photographed in the city on April 25:
Rodrigo is approaching the end of her Guts World Tour. She’ll be playing festivals in North America and Europe this summer, with her next concert date set for June 7 at New York City’s Governors Ball.
In November, Rodrigo spoke to Vogue about how she grounds herself while touring. “I do all the classic things,” she began. “Call my therapist, go to the gym, I eat really healthy, and I don’t drink. But being creative is the ultimate form of self-care for me.”
Journaling is part of her routine, too: “I could journal forever,” Rodrigo said. “Putting down all the random stuff that comes into my head. Or if I’m feeling anxious, I’ll make a list of all the things I’m grateful for. I find that journaling is always the antidote.”
In April, the singer made headlines for her powerful speech about reproductive rights at Planned Parenthood’s gala. “We live in a world that politicizes our bodies and uses harmful ideologies to deny us safety and health care, and it breaks my heart to think that, because of oppressive laws and outdated policies, some of those girls may not get to follow their dreams the way I was able to follow mine,” she said.
She urged people to follow the example of the nonprofit’s late former president Cecile Richards: “She reminds us that standing up for what’s right doesn’t mean we have to be fearless,” Rodrigo said. “We can be scared, we can be angry, we can feel hopeless. We just have to fight anyway.”
