On the 10-year anniversary of her Met Gala debut, Lady Gaga chose to take the night off as she continues to prepare for her Mayhem Ball Tour. Gaga just played a massive show in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 3, and will next perform in Singapore, so it’s understandable that she decided to skip the 2025 festivities, given the distance.
When Gaga first attended the Met Gala in 2015, she wore Alexander Wang for Balenciaga.
Gaga spoke to ELLE earlier this year about how creating her new album, Mayhem, allowed her to rediscover parts of herself. “The chaos I thought was long gone is fully intact and ready to greet me whenever I’d like,” she said. “Part of the message of even the first song on the album is that your demons are with you in the beginning and they are with you in the end, and I don’t mean it in a bleak way. Maybe we can make friends sooner with this reality instead of running all the time.”
Her fiancé, Michael Polansky, also spoke about what it was like to watch her build the album: “It’s been one of the most incredible parts of this chapter of my life, to live with and coexist alongside someone making art and being creative in ways that very few people get to experience. I think of myself as really lucky to have been there for it,” he told ELLE.
“She recorded it right down the street from our house, so we could easily walk back and forth from the studio,” Polansky added. “I spent a lot of time with her, bringing my laptop to work while she was there. What surprised me most was how fast she is. I couldn’t believe how quickly a song would take shape. Within five minutes, 80 percent of the song would have come from nothing.”
