Kaia Gerber was notably absent from the Met Gala tonight. The model last posted on Instagram four days ago, sharing a cryptic caption that read, “displaying behaviors and acting in ways.” She also just dropped a new collaboration with Mango, which may explain her decision to sit out this year’s event.
The 2025 gala is being co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams. LeBron James, who was originally announced as an honorary chair, was unable to attend due to a knee injury.
In 2024, Gerber graced the Met Gala red carpet in a strapless white Prada gown, perfectly complementing the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Her hair was styled in a voluminous, teased updo, and she accessorized with matching jewelry featuring smoky, square-cut stones adorning her ears and neck.
The Bottoms actress has continued to model as her acting career takes off and is still entrenched fashion. In a joint interview with Vogue last month, Gerber and her mom, legendary model Cindy Crawford, discussed their influence on one another.
“I’m probably more inspired by you, than you are by me,” Gerber said to her mom. “Her style has been pretty dialed in for a while. The nice thing about like looking quite similar to a parent is if I want to know if a hair or makeup look will look good on me, I will look up pictures of my mom—because if it looks good on her, most of the time, I can pull it off as well.”
Crawford admitted that she is just as inspired by her daughter when it comes to fashion.
“I trust Kaia’s opinion, but I also don’t wanna be one of those moms that tries too hard,” Crawford told Vogue. “I would never want to compete with my 23-year-old daughter. Nothing makes me happier. If she wants to wear something that I wore 30 years ago. What bigger compliment is that?”
