‘Failure Is Not An Option’: Scott Jennings Tells Republicans It’s Time To Finally Pass Trump’s Tax Cuts

Republican strategist Scott Jennings said on Thursday that Republicans must pass President Donald Trump’s tax cuts, saying it was not just “good policy,” but also draws a “bright line” when compared to Democrats.

Republicans in Congress are working on a budget reconciliation bill that would include making the tax cuts Trump passed in 2017 permanent, while also removing taxes on tips, overtime and social security. Jennings said the Republicans in Congress had to ensure the legislation passed. (RELATED: ‘You Look Enraged’: Scott Jennings Spars With Former Fox Host Over DOGE’s Accomplishments)

“Failure is not an option and as a message to the Republicans, you have to pass the president’s agenda,” Jennings said. “You have to cut taxes for the American people. And it’s good policy, but it’s also good politics. Right now, the biggest bright line, and you’re going to see this argued for weeks between the Republicans and the Democrats other than immigration, which is huge, is on taxes. President Trump wants to cut them. The Democrats want to raise them.”

“Democrats do not want to raise taxes, that the Democrats do not want to raise taxes,” Democratic strategist Xochitl Hinojosa responded. “I just want to say that.”

“CNN NewsNight” host Abby Phillip reminded Hinojosa of the Democratic party’s call to increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans. Trump first announced he would end the federal taxation on tips during a June 2024 campaign event in Las Vegas.

“So like your friends like Elon Musk and Donald Trump and all of those people,” Hinojosa said to Jennings later, with Jennings asking, “What people? Give me an idea.”

“Like your friends like Elon Musk. They are the ones,” Hinojosa said, leading to a further back and forth between the two political strategists.

Former Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo called for redistribution of wealth during a Tuesday event, claiming that such a measure was necessary for democracy’s survival.

“This is the big problem for Democrats. You can never define who is rich,” Jennings said. “Because… when you come, when you come right down to it, what Democrats believe is that anyone who pays taxes is rich enough to have them increased. If you vote, if you vote against this bill, then… the tax cuts will expire, and everybody with a job who pays taxes, their taxes will go up. That is the Democrat position, is it not?”

Republicans are negotiating over what will ultimately be in the package, with congressional leaders promising at least $1.5 trillion in spending cuts, along with passing Trump’s top policy priorities into law.
