Bruce Springsteen is continuing to roll out previously unreleased songs from his forthcoming boxed set, Tracks II: The Lost Albums, which is due June 27.
On Thursday, May 1, the Boss released “Faithless,” a somber and moody confessional number that he revealed has an interesting origin story, to all the popular streaming platforms.

“Faithless was a piece of work I took (on commission) for a spiritual Western film that was preparing to be made around 2004,” he wrote about the track on Instagram in a May 1 post. “In Hollywood, I have found, you can disappear into ‘development’ for long periods of time, so I thought I would release these now and let you hear my results of this interesting project.”

The post also features a carousel of professionally shot photographs of Springsteen and desert landscapes by noted photographer Danny Clinch, who goes by the Instagram handle @dannybones64.
While the post and presumably the song received several heart reactions, as well as one calling Springsteen “Goat 🐐,” some other fans were less than enthused.
“As a fan since 1985, and 70 plus shows under my belt, all I can say is, after 3 songs, I can see why he didn’t release them. I’m sorry but they are not good,” one person wrote.
“While I love most that Bruce releases, I can understand why this was shelved. It’s good, but it’s not my taste,” another wrote.
Others had a more positive reaction and seemingly understood the vibe the Boss was going for. “Interesting piece of work. It suits definitely well as a Western theme like to Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone. Wonderful lyrics once again. The lost albums are not lost but alive. That is awesome. 😊🥰”
