You season 5 wrapped on Netflix last week, with justice finally being served as Joe Goldberg was arrested after years of killing. While Joe’s murderous ways were dealt with once and for all, there were a lot of loose ends that weren’t tied up in the fifth and final season. Shortly after the 10-part series aired, viewers flocked to the internet and pointed out a few major plot holes, one being the sudden “vanishing” of the side or back door in Mooney’s Bookstore.
In the penultimate episode, Maddie Lockwood (played by Anna Camp) sets Mooney’s on fire and traps Joe in the basement. However, some things are not quite adding up. In season 1, there was a back door to the bookstore that Joe used on many occasions to enter the basement, but somehow Joe didn’t think to use this during the fire, leading many to question where the door had suddenly disappeared to.
As the thriller comes to an end, read on for all the plot holes you might have missed while watching.
Mooney’s back door
As pointed out by viewers on both Reddit and TikTok, Mooney’s has a backdoor or side entrance which Joe used frequently in season 1. However, during the fire, this wasn’t even considered as an option for getting away and we know Joe always has some plan up his sleeve or in his literal arm (where he sewed a spare key). So, why didn’t he escape via the door?
The basement signal
It’s mentioned throughout that there’s no signal in the basement of Mooney’s where Joe’s cage is, so captives can’t go calling their family or friends for help while stuck down there. However, the signal seemed to have suddenly improved in season 5, but only on certain occasions.
Not only did they manage to film live with Kim Kramer when Joe was being interviewed after he was caught live on camera killing Clayton (played by Tom Francis), but Kate was also able to send Nadia Joe’s confession while down there.
As well as this, Kate literally got a notification while in the basement during the ninth episode when her and Nadia brought Joe down there. She was made aware that someone had got into the apartment upstairs and left to find Bronte there…
Some fans have argued that the Wi-Fi service doesn’t work in the cage, but works in the surrounding area, but this doesn’t explain how Kim and her crew were able to enter the cage with Joe and film so perfectly!
The fire
While Bronte (Madeline Brewer) rescued Joe from the fire as part of her plan to get him back in the finale, Kate was left in the basement, so how did she get out with just a few burns on her arm?
Henry
At the end of season 3, Joe left baby Henry with his neighbors as he ran off to Europe. By the fifth season, Henry was back with Joe. Kate’s lawyers are said to have worked overtime to get him back, but the math just isn’t mathing…
Speaking of math, how old is Henry? It’s said that the final season of You picks up about three years after the events of season 4, which took place only a few months after season three. When Joe left Joe at the end of season 3, he was just a baby. Fans are now questioning his age.
“Does Henry seem to be much older than he’s supposed to be? How long has it been between Joe leaving him and now?” one wrote on Reddit.
More questions I have about #you #YouNetflix is how did they get Henry back so easily? The loving family that raised him just handed him over? They totally glazed over all of that. And no Ellie appearance? Did I miss her or did they just forget she existed? pic.twitter.com/39AOS2gKc3

Bronte’s almost death
During the finale, Bronte pretended that she died when Joe was drowning her, however, we later saw her emerge from the water and shoot Joe in the groin, which has raised some questions amongst viewers.
“How tf could Bronte act dead when she’s actually drowning that’d take years of training?” one asked.
