If you’ve ever wondered what really goes on behind closed doors in Hollywood, The Studio is the cathartic, chaotic comedy you’ve been waiting for.

Seth Rogen leads (and co-directs, co-writes, and executive produces) the new Apple TV+ satire as Matt Remick, the newly minted head of Continental Studios. Matt’s dream job—greenlighting the kinds of movies he’s idolized since childhood—quickly becomes a recurring nightmare as he collides with egomaniacal talent, backstabbing colleagues, and the challenges of merging art and commerce in a cutthroat industry.

“I would describe my character as someone who grew up loving movies and who worked very hard to be someone who got to make movies and I think he’s someone who wishes he was very creative, but is not,” Rogan revealed on the Fresh Air podcast. “He’s very panicked and stressed out and wears it on his sleeve. That’s a thing that I actually have seen from a lot of these [studio execs]. And that’s based on some specific people I know—they wear their panic clearly, they have a bad poker face. And that is very much something my character has as someone who is never trying to calm a situation and always subscribing to like the worst case scenario, basically.”

The 10-episode first season, created by Rogen alongside Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez, features a stacked ensemble cast—Kathryn Hahn and Chase Sui Wonders among them—and a star-studded lineup of Hollywood cameos. Think: Martin Scorsese, Quinta Brunson, Zac Efron, Olivia Wilde, Adam Scott, Zoë Kravitz, Greta Lee, Dave Franco, and even Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rogen called the series “a very personal” project and “hopefully the definitive show business satire for this current era.”

“Almost everything is inspired, if not directly by something that has happened then by feelings we’ve had or fears that have arisen about things we hope don’t happen,” Rogen told Vanity Fair. “A lot of it was either told to us by other people or things we ourselves have experienced.”

The Studio is set to debut with two episodes on Wednesday, March 26, and will continue with weekly releases through May 21.
