In the famous words of Carrie Bradshaw: “Men, I may not know, but shoes… shoes I know.” And as an expert shoe hoarder collector, I’m always looking for a reason to justify having more shoes than I probably need. Fashion trends are always exciting, sure, and I love a good jewelry moment, but shoes are really what make my heart sing so best believe that every season, I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see what trending footwear styles will emerge.
I don’t want to spoil too much here, but there’s So! Much! Goodness! in store for Fall/Winter 2025 shoe trends: slouchy leather boots, collegiate shoes like oxfords and brogues, the chicest wedges you’ve ever seen, and even the return of wearing fun tights with your heels. I went ahead and combed through all of the shoes worn on the Fall/Winter 2025 runways in order to distill it into this handy guide that you can bookmark for the next time you go shopping. Ready?
Wicked, Witchy Heels
Extra-long, sharp, pointy toes dominated the runways at Gucci, Lanvin, McQueen, and Dior this season. And while I’m not saying this is because of Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba in Wicked: Part 1, I’m also not not saying that! This style is surprisingly wearable, too. Depending on your job, you could probably get away with wearing these to the office with some wide-leg slacks.
A Modern Wedge
These aren’t your average espadrille wedges. The styles stomping down the runways this season are a sleeker, more modern style. Maybe there’s a curved heel, in the case of Balmain, or a metallic finish with optional embellishments à la Fendi. It could even be a boot or a sandal! The possibilities—and the arch support—are truly endless.
Serious Oxfords and Mary Janes
Dark Academia fans, this one’s for you. Practical, serious shoes—think lace-up brogues and preppy Mary Janes in deeper, collegiate shades like brown, forest green, and navy—were all over the runways at Thom Browne, Bally, Max Mara, and Hodakova. This is a continuation of one of the biggest Spring 2025 shoe trends, but the fall version is moodier and preppier. Basically, if it looks like it could be part of an Ivy League dress code, it’s in.
Tights With Heels
The days of freezing bare legs in the name of fashion are officially over. Tights, hosiery, and tall socks paired with heels were a major presence across the Fall/Winter 2025 collections. Whether you’re into delicate lace (Isabel Marant styled lace tights under a heeled boot, whereas Avavav stretched lace tights over a kitten heel) or prefer the classic simplicity of transparent black tights, there’s a little something for everyone with this trend.
Slouchy Leather Boots
Skin-tight boots had their moment, now it’s time to embrace something softer. Slouchy, bohemian leather boots with natural folds and crinkles that are perfectly worn-in are on the rise. Louis Vuitton even did a sweater boot that emulated the slouch of foldover leather. It’s 2025, people, so we’re all about pieces that look lived-in and loved.
