The former Dawson’s Creek stars are staying close in tough times.
Joshua Jackson, who rose to fame as the quick-witted Pacey Witter on Dawson’s Creek, just provided an update on his friend and former co-star James Van Der Beek, who revealed in November that he was undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer.
During an appearance on Monday’s episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, Jackson told Hudson that Van Der Beek’s diagnosis has “brought the whole gang back together,” referring to his fellow Dawson’s co-stars, which include Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Busy Philipps, and Michelle Williams.
“The last I heard — it’s not really my story to tell, but — that the latest round of treatment was doing well,” Jackson told Hudson of Van Der Beek, PEOPLE reports. “So he’s doing a little bit better, but it is obviously very, very scary.”
Jackson went on to say that everyone is sending their best thoughts to Van Der Beek, who shares six children with his wife Kimberly.
“Thoughts, prayers, and just anything that can be done for him — and his family,” Jackson added. “He has a large, young family.”

Jackson also touched on Van Der Beek’s journey during an appearance on Modern Family alum Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s podcast, Dinner’s On Me. Jackson noted that while what Van Der Beek is going through is extremely challenging, it’s also served as a means to bring the old gang back together.
“James is going through something really, truly terrible right now,” Jackson told Ferguson. “And, I wish I could take credit for this, but I was kind of the absentee partner here, but the girls all got together and were like, ‘We need to do something to help this guy out.'”
