A New York Democrat running for a county legislature seat has been missing for days and police in Nassau County are asking the public for help.

According to a press release from the Nassau County Police Department, 29-year-old Petros Krommidas was last seen on Wednesday, April 23, at around 9 p.m. local time. His disappearance was first reported to officials the following evening, police said.

Police describe Krommidas as a 6’2”, 230-pound man with brown hair and brown eyes, officials also said he was last seen wearing a camouflage print sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.

“He is believed to be in the Long Beach area,” police said.

The Nassau County Democratic Committee posted a plea for help on Facebook, asking anyone with any information on Krommidas’ whereabouts to report them to police.

“Our friend and colleague Petros Krommidas has been reported missing,” the post said. “Please share this information across all your social media platforms.”

In a statement to local news station NBC 4, Nassau County Democratic Committee Chairman Jay Jacobs said Krommidas is a “strong voice for Democratic values.”

“We are heartbroken over the disappearance of Petros Krommidas,” he said. “He is well respected by the community and represents the very best of our next generation of leaders. We are keeping Petros and his family in our prayers and remain hopeful for his safe return.”

Both the Nassau County Police Department and Nassau County Democratic Committee Chairman Jay Jacobs did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment on Monday.
