Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, the reality TV star known for her role in ‘Jersey Shore,’ has announced that she has been diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer. The diagnosis was revealed after a recent cone biopsy, a procedure where surgeons remove a cone-shaped wedge of abnormal tissue from the cervix, as explained by the Cleveland Clinic.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi took to TikTok to announce her adenocarcinoma diagnosis, stating, “Obviously not the news I was hoping for, but also not the worst news, just because they caught it so early. Thank freaking god.” She encouraged her followers to make pap smear appointments, as she had been struggling with abnormal pap smears for about three or four years.
Polizzi, 38, explained that the cancer cells did not spread to the cervix and that the doctors were able to remove the tumor by removing the chunk of tissue from the cone biopsy. She further stated that her next step is getting a PET Scan, which will detect if the cancer has spread.
Polizzi plans to get a hysterectomy as part of her treatment, which will involve removing her cervix and uterus, and possibly lymph nodes. She emphasized the importance of women speaking out about their diagnoses, stating, “We are a community of women and there’s literally no platform or anywhere where women are talking about this.”
The reality star first opened up about her health scares last month, revealing that her abnormal pap smear results and precancerous cells led her to undergo an “uncomfortable” colposcopy and biopsy. At the time, she said the thought of getting a hysterectomy was “just sad and scary,” but she knows it’s the right decision to stay “healthy and safe” for her husband and three children.
Polizzi — who welcomed Lorenzo, 13, Giovanna, 11, and Angelo, 6, with husband Jionni LaValle — clarified that she’s “done having kids,” but the thought of getting a hysterectomy is still difficult for her. She concluded her emotional video by thanking other women who have spoken out about their diagnoses, saying it made her “feel seen.”
