Carlos Alcaraz has a victory plan for the Australian Open: a kangaroo tattoo. Winning the Melbourne title would not only add to his ink collection but also make him the youngest player in history to complete the career Grand Slam, a feat that would redefine his legacy in tennis.

The 2026 Australian Open is more than just a tennis tournament for Carlos Alcaraz; it’s a canvas for his ambition. The reigning world No. 1 has revealed that a victory in Melbourne would be commemorated with a new tattoo—a kangaroo. In a video posted by the official Australian Open TikTok account, Alcaraz was asked what ink he’d get if he won, and his answer was simple and direct: “Kangaroo.”

When pressed about the placement for the potential new body art, the 22-year-old Spanish phenom was slightly indecisive, pointing to two spots on his leg. “I have a spot here and here, so I would think about it,” he explained. “I’m a righty, so maybe the right one… next to the Wimbledon one,” he added, referencing the strawberry design he got after his 2023 triumph at the All England Club.

This potential kangaroo tattoo would be the latest chapter in Alcaraz’s unique and growing collection of Grand Slam memorabilia. He began this personal tradition after his historic 2022 US Open victory at age 19, becoming the youngest man and first teenager in the Open Era to hold the ATP’s No. 1 ranking. To celebrate that milestone, he got the date “11.09.22.” tattooed on his left tricep.

However, Alcaraz has since expanded his rules. While he once claimed he would only get a tattoo for his first win at each major, he recently broke that pattern. After winning his second US Open title in 2025, he added ink of the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge to his arm. He also has a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower with the date of his maiden French Open victory in 2024, where he outlasted Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller.

The Australian Open represents the final, and perhaps most significant, piece of the puzzle. Should Alcaraz lift the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup, he would achieve the career Grand Slam, joining the sport’s most elite club. More remarkably, he would become the ninth man to accomplish this feat and, by a significant margin, the youngest to do so. He would surpass Rafael Nadal‘s record by nearly two years, a testament to his prodigious talent and meteoric rise.

“Completing the career Grand Slam is something amazing to do,” Alcaraz said, per ESPN. “To be the youngest [to have] done it before is even better. I’m just happy with the way I see myself improving every match, every practice. I know that I’m going to keep going forward.”

His path to history is clear. Alcaraz takes on Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Jan. 27. A victory would put him in the semifinals, with the men’s final scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 1. The tennis world is watching closely, not just for another thrilling match, but for the potential coronation of a new king and the symbolic addition of a kangaroo to his trophy case.

For fans of the sport, Alcaraz’s journey is a masterclass in modern athleticism and personal branding. His tattoos are not just marks on his skin; they are a visual diary of his career’s greatest moments, each one telling a story of triumph, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of greatness. The kangaroo, should it come to be, would be the most significant story of all, symbolizing his conquest of the final frontier and his place among the all-time greats.
