New court filings have brought new scrutiny to the allegations facing Timothy Busfield, after audio from early police interviews with two underage accusers surfaced this week.
The audio, obtained by TMZ on Monday, January 19, features interviews conducted with the 11-year-old twin boys—identified as V.L. and S.L.—during police questioning in November 2024. The children were reportedly interviewed separately by investigators.
In the recording, an officer carefully explains boundaries to the boys, asking, “You know no one can touch your private areas?” Both children respond, “yes.” When asked directly whether Busfield ever touched their private parts, the boys reply, “No,” according to the audio.
Busfield’s attorney presented the recording in a New Mexico courtroom on Monday, describing the statements as an “unequivocal denial” of inappropriate touching, per the outlet. The audio was submitted ahead of a scheduled hearing Tuesday, which will determine whether the actor will be granted release on bail while awaiting trial.
But, according to the outlet, prosecutors argued that the audio reflects a failure to “disclose” abuse rather than proof that no misconduct occurred.
The Legal Context
Busfield, 68, surrendered to authorities earlier this month and was charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. The allegations stem from incidents that allegedly occurred while he was directing the FOX series The Cleaning Lady.
A criminal complaint alleges that one of the boys later confided in a therapist, claiming Busfield touched his privates, according to TMZ.
Professional Fallout
As the legal process continues, the fallout has already affected Busfield’s professional life. The publication also confirmed that scenes featuring the West Wing alum in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios romantic comedy You Deserve Each Other, starring Penn Badgley, are being removed from the final cut of the film. Busfield had been cast as the father of Meghann Fahy’s character, but the role will now be edited out entirely.
