A middle-school science teacher staged a late-night assault in her own SUV, using a blanket as a curtain while two students sat in the back, then told the 14-year-old victim she was pregnant with his child—an allegation that now spans two Texas counties and could bring decades behind bars.

Jaden Renee Charles, 26, parked her SUV at the far edge of the Walmart lot in Alice, Texas, tied a blanket across the front-seat headrests, and raped the 14-year-old boy while his 15-year-old female classmate and 16-year-old male friend sat in the back, according to arrest affidavits filed in Nueces County.

The February 29 assault lasted only minutes, but the fallout has already cost Charles her career, her freedom pending trial, and possibly decades of her life. She was a first-year science teacher at Agua Dulce Secondary School, a 250-student campus 35 miles west of Corpus Christi, when campus police opened a confidential tip line in early March 2024. Within 48 hours, detectives had statements from three teenagers and a warrant for Charles’ arrest.

From Classroom to Courtroom: How the Case Exploded

Investigators say Charles began grooming the victim during after-school “tutoring” sessions held in her classroom. By winter break she had added all three students to a private Snapchat group titled “SciSquad,” where she sent bikini selfies and asked who was “bold enough” to ride with her off-campus. The 14-year-old answered first.

On the night of the assault, Charles allegedly picked the trio up after 1 a.m., drove them 18 miles to Alice, and bought energy drinks inside the Walmart. Security cameras time-stamped her purchase at 1:57 a.m.; the assault is alleged to have begun minutes later. The two back-seat witnesses told detectives they initially laughed, thinking it was a dare, then recorded two brief videos “in case she tried to deny it,” one affidavit states. Those clips are now sealed evidence.

Charles was arrested March 8, 2024. A search of her phone uncovered a calendar entry titled “Baby Daddy Drama” dated the same week as the assault. She told a co-worker she was “late,” then texted the victim: “if I’m pregnant it’s yours, no one can know.” Investigators say no medical records confirm a pregnancy.

Two Counties, Two Indictments, One Defendant

Jaden Renee Charles appears in 94th District Court, Nueces County, for status hearing
Charles, now 26, waits for her attorneys during a January 2026 status hearing in Corpus Christi.

Texas law allows prosecutors to charge assaults in either the county where the act occurred or where the victim resides. Because the students live in Jim Wells County but the assault happened in Nueces, both district attorneys filed charges:

  • Nueces County: one count of sexual assault of a child under 17, a second-degree felony carrying 2–20 years.
  • Jim Wells County: one identical count plus an additional allegation based on the second victim’s later statement.

At a January 8, 2026, hearing, Judge Jack Pulcher of the 94th District Court grilled Charles’ defense team for still lacking discovery from Jim Wells prosecutors. Defense attorney Robert J. Gonzalez admitted he has “zero” documents from that county, raising the chance of separate trials that could keep Charles in pre-trial limbo through 2027. The next status date is set for April 2.

Why This Case Matters: Power, Proximity, and Social-Media Grooming

Texas Education Agency data show 433 new educator-misconduct investigations opened in 2023, the highest total since the state began tracking in 2011. More than half involved social-media contact initiated by the teacher. Charles’ Snapchat group fits a pattern child-abuse experts call “incremental boundary collapse”: each post, joke, or late-night ride chips away at the student-teacher wall until the relationship feels peer-to-peer.

Agua Dulce ISD has since installed motion-activated cameras in every secondary classroom and banned one-on-one digital communication between teachers and students on non-district platforms. Superintendent Edna R. Reyes told trustees the policy change was “a direct response to the betrayal of trust we never thought possible in our building.”

What Happens Next

If convicted on both counts, Charles faces a cumulative maximum of 40 years in prison and lifetime registration as a sex offender. Texas juries have grown increasingly unwilling to accept plea deals in student-teacher cases after a string of high-profile convictions in Dallas and Houston districts. Prosecutors in Corpus Christi already rejected a 15-year plea offer, sources close to the case tell onlytrustedinfo.com.

Meanwhile, the 14-year-old—now 16—has transferred to a neighboring district where counselors say he is “academically recovered but emotionally guarded.” His family has filed a civil suit seeking damages from both the district and Charles, alleging administrators ignored early warnings that the teacher was “overly friendly” with boys on her robotics team.

Charles remains free on $150,000 bond, wearing an ankle monitor and forbidden from contacting anyone under 18. She has pleaded not guilty. Jury selection in Nueces County is tentatively scheduled for October 2026.
