Young Conservatives Fret About the Future at Turning Point’s Annual Gathering

Young conservatives gathered at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona, to discuss their concerns about the future and the challenges they face in their lives. The event, which was the first since the death of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, saw attendees expressing mixed views about President Trump’s return to Washington.

At 23, Caleb Gasca has checked off several traditional markers of adulthood. He graduated college, found a job in a construction office, and got married. However, living with his wife’s parents in San Bernardino County, California, he still feels as though his life has yet to fully begin.

Gasca’s story is not unique. Many young conservatives who attended AmericaFest 2025, the annual gathering of Turning Point USA, expressed similar concerns about their future. They are worried about the high cost of living, the difficulty of finding a job, and the challenges of paying off student loans.

A Tougher Road to Adulthood

The road to adulthood has become increasingly difficult for young people. The cost of living, particularly in areas like California, has made it challenging for them to afford basic necessities like housing and healthcare. According to a recent Pew Research Center study, more teenagers are acknowledging that they spend too much time on social media and are concerned about its effects on their mental health.

The Harvard Kennedy Institute of Politics found that adults under 30 are three times more likely to believe that artificial intelligence will take away opportunities from them than create them. This sentiment is reflected in the concerns expressed by young conservatives at AmericaFest 2025.

‘Young People Are Angry’

Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, warned that the status quo was not sustainable and would have electoral ramifications for Republicans. In one of his final interviews, he accused his party and its donors of being “blind to the suffering” of young people who helped deliver Trump’s victory and a Senate majority.

Kirk’s concerns are echoed by many young conservatives who attended AmericaFest 2025. They are frustrated with the lack of action on issues that affect them, such as the high cost of living, student loan debt, and the impact of social media on their mental health.

The concerns expressed by young conservatives at AmericaFest 2025 are a warning sign for Republicans. If they fail to address the issues that affect young people, they risk losing their support in future elections.

As the CNN reported, the loss of Charlie Kirk has cast a grim pall over the event and left an unmistakable void in the movement. Meanwhile, many of the promises Trump made to the group last year — including “lower prices,” an end to foreign wars, and “generational change” — have yet to materialize.

In conclusion, the concerns expressed by young conservatives at AmericaFest 2025 are a warning sign for Republicans. If they fail to address the issues that affect young people, they risk losing their support in future elections. As the Harvard Kennedy Institute of Politics found, adults under 30 are three times more likely to believe that artificial intelligence will take away opportunities from them than create them.
