A salmonella outbreak linked to recalled eggs has sickened at least 95 people across the U.S. and is being investigated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and public health officials in several states as of Thursday, Aug. 28.

California-based Country Eggs LLC issued a recall for its large brown cage-free sunshine yolk eggs on Wednesday, Aug. 27, due to an ongoing salmonella outbreak, according to a CDC release.

The cases have been reported across 13 states: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington. Among these, California has reported the highest number of cases.

What to know about the recalled eggs:

  • Large brown cage-free “sunshine yolks” or “omega-3 golden yolks” eggs

  • Distributed from Jun 16, 2025, through July 9, 2025, in California and Nevada

  • Eggs were packed in individual retail cartons bearing carton brand names:

    • Nagatoshi Produce

    • Misuho

    • Nijiya Markets

  • Code on Carton: CA 7695

  • Sell-by dates: July 1, 2025, through Sept. 18, 2025

  • Sold to grocery stores and food service distributors

  • Eggs were also packed as large brown “sunshine yolks” or “omega-3 golden yolks” (1/15 DZ bulk) for foodservice with the same codes and sell-by dates.

What is Salmonella?

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and fatal infections in children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems, according to the CDC.

Most individuals infected with salmonella begin to show symptoms 12 to 72 hours after consuming the contaminated product. The main symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps.

Most people recover without treatment; however, in rare cases, the infection may require hospitalization, according to the CDC. Pregnant women are also at higher risk of developing an infection from it and should seek medical attention if symptoms appear.

Consumers who experience an illness due to the affected product should contact their healthcare provider to report their symptoms and receive medical care.
