That support extends beyond the phone too. On Aug. 24, West Side Story actress Zegler shared a photo of Mirren and her husband, director Taylor Hackford, posing with her backstage at her West End production of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s musical Evita.
She captioned the sweet shot, “kinda crazy how love is everywhere.”

Mirren previously gushed about her costars to Virgin Radio UK in 2023: “We’re from completely different backgrounds, obviously different ages, but the moment we got together, we just had this great chemistry.”
“It’s so fun to work with women, to work with women with whom you have great friendship and great love for each other,” she added.
“We hung together when we weren’t filming, we went shopping together, we went out to eat together. We got a little bit drunk together. So, you know, that just made the whole experience just a wonderful one. And, you know, we are sisters for life.”
In Shazam! Fury of the Gods, a sequel to 2019’s superhero movie Shazam!, Mirren, Liu and Zegler play daughters of Atlas Hespera, Kalypso and Anthea, antagonists to the titular hero (Zachary Levi).
During her interview with PEOPLE, Mirren also reflected on the tough time she has wrapping up movies. “I always hate the last day of work, saying goodbye to this family that you’ve made, and then maybe you don’t meet again for 20-odd years. It’s kind of the nature of the beast, really,” she says.

Mirren is now starring in The Thursday Murder Club, a new Netflix comedy-mystery based on the first book in Richard Osman’s bestselling series. Mirren plays a retirement home resident who solves cold cases with the help of her friends (Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie and Ben Kingsley).
Is there a Thursday Murder Club text group too? “Not yet. But I think there will be. Certainly me and Celia text, yes,” says Mirren, who also costars with Brosnan on the Paramount+ series MobLand. “And because I’m working with Pierce, luckily I get to see him a lot.”
