  • Jason Kelce shared a beard-dyeing mishap on the Aug. 27 episode New Heights podcast

  • “I miss my grays. I can’t wait for this to grow back out,” the former NFL star said

  • Jason first addressed his hair color change earlier this month

Even Jason Kelce has bad hair days.

On the Wednesday, Aug. 27 episode of the New Heights podcast, the former NFL star, 37, told his brother and cohost Travis Kelce about a recent beard-dyeing mishap.

“This is not the right color, it’s way too dark,” he told Travis, 35. “It looks like I took shoe polish to my face.”

Jason explained that he mixed a light brown hair dye with a dark brown hair dye in order to get his right shade, but it was too dark.

“I came out of the shower, immediately I looked like Billy Mays,” the former Eagles star joked.

He then explained that he dyed his beard for a “bit” he was planning for his beverage brand Garage Beer.

“I was gonna do this bit where we go back in time, so I wanted to be younger,” he said. “Initially, I was going to shave my beard completely, and then I was like, ‘Yeah I’m not doing that, I hate my face too much. So, I’m gonna keep the beard but I’ll dye it to make me look younger.’ But we didn’t play chemistry very well and I ended up coming out a little darker than I was expecting.”

Jason then lamented, “I miss my grays. I can’t wait for this to grow back out.”

“It is kind of growing on me, though. I do feel like I look pretty good with the dark beard,” he added, before clarifying, “I didn’t do it out of vanity, I did it for a bit, that’s all I’m saying.”

Travis then teased his brother by saying, “It’s okay to be a little insecure about your grays.”

“That’s not why I did it, I love my grays!” Jason retorted.

Jason first addressed his hair color change earlier this month.

In a teaser clip for the Aug. 13 episode (which featured Travis’ now-fiancé Taylor Swift) the dad of four rocked dark brown facial hair close to his natural hair color, a noticeable departure from his formerly gray facial hair that he’s been seen wearing on and off the football field for years.

He didn’t address the change in the video, but he took to X minutes later to defend his decision after former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has also made his graying blonde beard his signature look, wrote that he felt “betrayed” by the move.

In response, Jason wrote: “I promise the dye was for a good reason, don’t hate me.” He didn’t elaborate on the reasoning at the time.

After Swift’s New Heights podcast debut, Guinness World Records revealed that she broke a new world record.

On Tuesday, Aug. 26, the British organization said that Swift’s appearance pulled in “the most concurrent views for a podcast on YouTube” that day with a total of 1.3 million. Per Guinness World Records, the episode has received more than 20 million views at the time of publication.

Swift and Travis announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
