REPORT: Musk Weighs Vance 2028 Endorsement, Ending ‘America Party’
SHARE

Elon Musk is quietly slowing down his effort to create a third party and is considering backing Vice President JD Vance in 2028, sources familiar with the billionaire’s plans told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) in a Tuesday report.

After a public blow-up with President Donald Trump over the “Big, Beautiful, Bill,” Musk announced he was creating a third party called the “America Party.” Since, Musk has hardly mentioned the third party effort on X. Sources told the WSJ that Musk has told allies he has been focused on maintaining a relationship with Vance while he weighs going all in on the “America Party.” (RELATED: How JD Vance Emerged Unscathed From Elon Musk’s West Wing Frenzy)

Vance has never spoken with Musk about 2028, but the VP has encouraged him to support Trump and Republicans in the 2026 midterms, sources familiar with the situation told the Daily Caller.

Musk has stayed in touch with Vance since departing the administration, sources told the WSJ. The sources added that Musk has admitted that if he creates a third party, he will damage his relationship with Vance.

Musk responded to the WSJ story on X, saying, “nothing WSJ says should ever be thought of as true.”

The sources added to the WSJ that despite considering backing Vance financially in 2028, he hasn’t officially ruled out the creation of a third party.

The Caller previously reported that Musk’s America Party efforts seem to have died down, as the Tesla CEO hasn’t posted about the third party since July 6. Despite the attention around Musk’s breakup with Trump, a source familiar with the White House’s thinking previously told the Caller that his America Party is not on their radar.

A Trump world source confirmed to the Caller they had not received any indication that the White House is concerned about Musk’s threat.

“Every conversation I’ve had is people are just, like, we don’t know what the hell he’s actually thinking. And no one has outlined a solid plan from him on what he’s actually trying to do, it’s just been Twitter polls,” the Trump world source told the Caller.

Following Musk’s blow up, Vance came out of the conflict unscathed.

Vance, who has had a good relationship with Musk, was with the president when the situation first unfolded, a source familiar previously told the Caller. Vance and Trump continued to talk throughout the day as things escalated.

At the time, Trump told Vance to speak tactfully about Musk, a source told the Caller. Vance was expected to appear on the podcast “This Past Weekend with Theo Von” amid the drama. Trump’s instructions helped keep Vance unscathed in the conflict, the source added.

“I’m the vice president to President Trump, my loyalties are always going to be with the president. I think that Elon, he’s an incredible entrepreneur,” Vance told Von regarding Musk’s tweet about the Epstein files.

“I think DOGE was really good, this sort of effort to root out waste, fraud and abuse in our country was really good, and look man, I’m always going to be loyal to the president and I hope that eventually Elon kind of comes back into the fold. Maybe that’s not possible now because he’s gone so nuclear, but I hope it is,” he continued.
