Howard Stern may have taken the summer off, but the drama surrounding the future of his long-running radio show on SiriusXM is heating up.
The drama kicked into high gear back on Aug. 5, when The U.S. Sun published a story with the headline “BYE-BYE BOOEY: The Howard Stern Show ‘to be canceled’ after nearly 20 years on SiriusXM as ‘$100m’ contract is up later this year.”

The report claimed that the 71-year-old radio personality’s show on SiriusXM will be canceled after its 20-year run and he will likely make a deal with the company to get his catalog of shows after his exit when his contract expires this fall.
Rather than ignore the chatter, Stern and company have chosen to embrace the drama and use it as a tool to promote his return to the airwaves on Sept. 2.
A recent post on the official Stern show Instagram account is captioned, “Fired? Retiring? Canceled? Bye-Bye Booey? Howard Stern will speak. Tuesday, September 2. Only on @siriusxm#Howard100.”
The accompanying video clip amps up the drama even more with an announcer detailing the behind-the-scenes drama as photos of the show’s staffers and Stern flash on screen.
“‘The downfall of Howard Stern.’ ‘The shock jock just got his walking papers from SiriusXM.’ ‘The guillotine’s coming for Howard Stern.’ The tabloids have spoken. Howard Stern fired, canceled. Is it really bye bye Booey? Chaos is swirling at the Howard Stern Show. Did staffers talk to the press or are writers withholding their best jokes? Nobody knows what’s going on or who to trust. Now we can reveal all the questions will be answered. All the truths will be told by the one man truly on the inside. Howard Stern will speak Tuesday, September 2nd, Howard 100.”
Fans of the show weighed in with their takes in the comments.

Superfan and show regular Mariann from Brooklyn responded with a 🙌emoji with other fans responding to her comment.
“@mariannfrombrooklyn I’m nervous he’s not coming back 😬. I’ll die 😭,” wrote one.
“@mariannfrombrooklyn He’s tickling our ass with a feather,” another wrote.
Another fan predicted the beloved air personality isn’t leaving any time soon.
“Stern isnt going anywhere, he will leave when he wants. He is the Sole reason 33 million people pay to listen. Love ya Howard and staff,” they wrote.
Others threatened to cancel their SiriusXM subscription if the satcaster doesn’t retain the air personality.
“When he goes….so does my subscription 🤷🏽♂,” one wrote.
“I really don’t see the appeal to Sirius without Howard,” another one added.
