The first two episodes of Outlander: Blood of My Blood are finally here, and the prequel series following Jamie and Claire Fraser’s parents is already everything we could have hoped for.

We finally get to learn more about Claire’s ill-fated parents, Julia Mortinsen (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine). The WWI soldier and the censorship office worker fall in love and write letters to each other in the early 20th century. Meanwhile, alternate storyline is playing out in early 18th-century Scotland; Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), the daughter and son of rival clans, fall in love against all odds.

This prequel series features several memorable characters from the original series, including a younger Colum and Dougal MacKenzie, Lord Loval, Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Jocasta Cameron, Ned Gowan, and Mrs. Fitz.

Read on to learn more about the cast of Blood of My Blood.

Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie

Harriet Slater is a 30-year-old English actress who has previously appeared in the DC Universe show Pennyworth and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Slater plays Ellen MacKenzie, Jamie Fraser’s future mother. As the eldest daughter of the MacKenzie clan, her family is trying to marry her to another clan to improve their situation – but Ellen has her sights set on a certain Fraser. Ellen passed away before the original series took place.

Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser

Jamie Roy is a Scottish actor who previously appeared in small films like Squeaky Clean Mysteries: Hazardous Duty, Burning Lies, and Your Boyfriend is Mine.

Roy plays Brian Fraser, a man born out of wedlock to Lord Dovat and Davina Porter, one of the maids. His identity as the bastard son of a Fraser makes him just about the worst candidate to marry into the family’s rival MacKenzie clan. But after meeting Ellen, there was no going back. Brian Fraser appeared briefly in the original series, played by Andrew Whipp.

Hermione Corfield as Julia Moriston

The angelic Hermione Corfield is a 31-year-old British actress who has previously appeared in films like Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, The Misfits, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

It takes no stretch of the imagination to see Corfield playing Claire’s future mother, Julia Moriston. Julia is a young woman working in a censorship office during World War I, while falling in love with Claire’s father, Henry Beauchamp. As the trailer suggests, she and Henry might be in for a time-travel experience like Claire. In the original series, Julia and Henry die in a car crash when Claire was five years old, and do not appear before the prequel.

Curran plays Lord Lovat/Simon Fraser, Brian’s father and the disgraced head of Clan Fraser. His greatest enemy is Red Jacob, Ellen’s father and head of the MacKenzie clan. He was played by Clive Russell in the original series.

Lord Lovat was a real-life historical figure who picked the wrong side in the Jacobite Rising of 1745 and was executed as a traitor, becoming the last man in Britain to be publicly beheaded. The phrase “laughing your head off” originated from Lovat’s amusement at seeing the crowd at his beheading.
