Fans were devastated when Aerosmith quit touring last year (following lead singer Steven Tyler‘s larynx injury), but music lovers still have a chance to hear their favorite Aerosmith tunes live thanks to guitarist Joe Perry and his band The Joe Perry Project, featuring a lineup of equally iconic musicians.
In a video shared to YouTube from the opening night of the JPP’s current US tour at the Hard Rock Event Center in Tampa, FL, on Aug. 13, Perry was joined by singer Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes, Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford, and Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo for a performance of the classic Aerosmith hit “Walk This Way” — and fans couldn’t get over how amazing they sounded.
“This is the best JPP lineup yet,” one person wrote, with a second raving, “AWESOME!! Thank you boys, sounds great.”
“Wish I was there,” somebody added, with another gushing, “Looks like a success!”
As NME reported, “Walk This Way” was just one of several Aerosmith songs included in the the setlist at the Hard Rock show. The band rocked out on such classics as “Same Old Song and Dance,” “Mama Kin,” “Last Child,” and others, also including Black Crowes’ songs like “Twice As Hard” and “Jealous Again” and Stone Temple Pilots’ tunes “Vasoline” and “Interstate Love Song.”
Anyone hoping to catch this lineup live should act fast, as the current JPP tour will have just 10 dates across the U.S., concluding with an opening slot for The Who on September 17 at the Hollywood Bowl.
