Chance the Rapper is opening up about his divorce from Kirsten Corley
The rapper said he and Corley are “still family forever”
Corley filed for divorce last year, eight months after the couple announced their separation
Chance the Rapper is opening up about how he and his estranged wife Kirsten Corley have adjusted to their new normal after divorce.
The “No Problem” rapper, 32, admitted on the New Rory & Mal podcast that his relationship with Corley — from whom he split last year after five years of marriage — has been a “transition,” as they’re still “growing” and are “just two people that definitely love each other.”
“The reality of it is everybody deals with their family different. The family I come from is very, very close,” he explained on the podcast on Thursday, Aug. 14. “It’s very important for us and for her and her family for us to be tight. So we still travel together, we[‘re] still family forever. It’s just a different format of it.”
Chance and Corley, who first met when they were just 9 years old, married in 2019, and are parents to daughters Kensli, 9, and Marli, 5. Corley, 32, filed for divorce in December, eight months after the couple announced their separation “amicably” in a joint statement.

Despite his positive thinking, Chance admitted on the podcast that divorce was difficult, especially as he’s still getting used to his current situation.
“I ain’t gonna act like it’s not tough. I ain’t gonna act like it’s perfect and we shook hands and dipped,” he said. “It’s weird. I think the toughness is that it’s a reality. I think that’s the toughest part. You might feel like you’re over it and you’re not over it. Or you might be used to a certain pattern of operating and because it don’t work like that, you have to allow yourself grace to deal with that and operate in reality.”
Chance added that it’s been important to both him and Corley to keep things cordial, especially considering they still live near one another in Chicago and see each other often.
“We try and always remember the importance of supporting each other, loving each other. Not just for the sake of our kids, but for the sake of each other’s sanity,” he said. “For the fact that we have respect for each other… We all still go to the same places. I see her at least every other week… I know people that they do not even recognize that their [baby mama] or [baby daddy] is alive. And that’s just not how we move.”

The Grammy-winning star also acknowledged that their children will keep them connected for the rest of their lives.
“It’s the rest of your life you will be connected, no matter what, emotionally, to this being,” he said. “Y’all in a venn diagram. Y’all both connected to the same thing… I’m not saying we the most emotionally mature people, but we both, I think, at least have that vantage point that allows us to never go too far in any direction. And I’m grateful that I got somebody that is like that.”
